New nanny about to start old nanny now wants to stay - what to do? RSS feed

That's a hard call, I can see both sides of the argument. I was offered a job by references and talking to employers, I asked the potential employer was she sure she wanted to hire me. This woman emailed me for over two weeks, I turned down 3 good job offers after I was told yes she was sure. Next thing I know she completely started to become shaky. Of course two jobs had already hired nannies by then, I had to humble myself and go back to the second job offer telling her my job had fallen to the way side. I got along with the parents and baby, thank God she gave me a second chance.

With so many parents putting their kids in school earlier than expected, it's not that easy starting all over again.

I'm not here to comment on who's feelings will be more hurt, but I just want to point out (only assuming it hasn't been mentioned in the replies I haven't read..) that your current nanny told you once the hours were not enough, so she either was looking for a job or had another one that fell through and just wants to stay on so she's not broke while she keeps looking. I wouldn't be surprised when she quits again in a month or two when that better opportunity comes along.

I would take this as a sign, let her go on her way to find a new full time job, and go forward with the new nanny. Just my opinions.

+1. She's going to be unhappy, and two months from now she's going to tell you how sorry she is, but it's just not working for her.
