Wow, OP, where are you traveling to in NOVA that would be $50/wk commute? |
This exactly. There are jobs that pay a transportation stipend if they suddenly require the employee to travel significantly further than they used to. There are definitely things that nannies can do to make this industry more professional, but that doesn't mean waiving every possible benefit that is unfamiliar to all MBs. All industries have some basic similarities, and they also have unique dynamics. Asking for a transportation stipend is not necessarily unprofessional if done correctly. Being professional lies in your attitude and the manner in which you handle issues. |
OP, I'm an MB. If I were asking you to move with us, and it was going to significantly impact your commute in both cost and duration, I would absolutely expect that to be a conversation between us. Not just because of the cost, but the impact on your commute and ability to comfortably get to work on time, not lose two hours of your personal time, manage potential winter weather situations, etc... would merit discussion.
I think you should bring it up and see if there is a way they can work with you. Also, I think you should lay the groundwork to revisit the discussion once you have all lived with the commute and you can see if it really does work for you. I think your concerns are totally valid. Too bad your employers didn't think to raise it for you, but hopefully they'll be considerate. Good luck. |
