Confused about their motivations? Really? How naive of you. Here's a hint: they don't trust her. Simple. Now grow up. |
You may need to reconsider this job, OP. Red flags like this tend to lead to nowhere good. |
Why did you feel the need to do this? Sounds like a terrible invasion of privacy. |
| My employers tried to trick me into doing this, by asking me to download a nanny log app that had gps tracking. No thanks!!! I don't need you knowing where I am in my free time. If I could disable it for when I'm off duty fine, but I couldn't so EFF NO!!! |
They want to track my location. Nothing to do with calls or texts. |
It would be if it were a real post. It's a troll post. Don't take the bait. OP, just say no and if they have a problem with it, move on. |
| If they want a tracking phone they can pay for a separate phone for your use during nanny hours only. Suggest that! |
No references for them - I would be their first nanny or sitter of any kind. They are "higher class" I guess you could say, and if they did have any criminal background they wouldn't be in the profession they're in. I did Google and research to confirm their identities/professions though. |
| I don't think I would feel comfortable having that app on my personal phone - I'm not sure why but it feels creepy - but if they wanted to give me a phone just for use when I was caring for their children, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I would leave the phone at their home when I left and pick it up again when I arrived. |
Hope she finds it and sues your ass. And retires. |
In that case, acknowledge their concern and that you do provide references and a clean background check to establish your trustworthiness. Be sure to state "I do not do tracking of any kind." Make it clear as day, no room for ambiguity here. Also, I would not put a lot of energy into arguing about it. If they feel very strongly then they need to find someone else. Do not quit though, let them make the decision. You can not file for unemployment while you search for another job if you quit. |

Your prospective new employers want to track your movements when you are working and with your children? Is that the situation?
What about when you are not working - will they still be able to track your location? |
My boss put a tracking devise on my car. It's against the law but I didn't sue, I just quit. I found out about the devise when one of the family friends told me about it. |
My soon-to-be employers (job has been offered, contract signed) want me to install an spp like "Find my iPhone" or "find my friends" so that they can track my phone via the GPS that the app uses. I'm assuming they want to know where I am at all times when I am working and caring for their child. I'm sure they would say they wouldn't track me during my off hours, but what would stop then? |
| Okay, I'm clearly missing something here... What would parents hope to learn with a tracking devise on a nanny's phone or car? Do parents actually think their nannies are taking their kids to bad neighborhoods to buy drugs or going to male strip clubs? I honestly don't get it - we go to the park, school, piano lesson, soccer practice - nothing exotic or remotely interesting! |
