They will not mind an undocumented worker and they will likely not pay or withhold taxes anyways so you will just get cash.

Give it a rest already.

Some of the best nannies I have interviewed didn't have papers. I couldn't hire them bc of my husband's job but if he didnt have that specific job, I would.

You have no idea if they are "the best" nannies or not just from an interview. I know you are trying to be all PC and open but honestly illegal immigration is not cool, and saying you would be happy to break and disregard the law if your husband allowed it makes you look like a fool.

Why so nasty? I assume pp's point was that people can be terrific nannies and also be illegal to work in the US. Those aren't mutually exclusive situations. How about a little empathy for someone who is just trying to earn a living while facing the nightmares of trying to legally immigrate to the US?

NP.

Because it is illegal to hire someone who is illegal. Empathy has nothing to do with it.

Absolutely not. I am also going to expect my employee to provide proper documentation , just like I have to provide to my employer.

This. This is code for we don't care if you're legal, we want to pay cash but we're probably not going to pay much either.

I think our immigration policies are atrocious, and those the law considers "illegal aliens" are not, in my mind, unworthy of rights, humane treatment, or even easy citizenship.

However, our family needs to be on the up and up about paying for income and other taxes, and I need a nanny who has a driver's license, can get health insurance, and isn't having to hide.

If I could sponsor you, I would... I'd need you to bring me those details, though.

I would hire you. The next time someone says anything about your immigration status ask them where the clothes on their back came from, the car in their driveway, and the grocery store full of off season produce they enjoy so much. We create immigration floods through in humane trade policies. Until the U.S. Government stops robbing the rest of the world of food, water, and energy resources they need to live at home, Americans need to shut their privileged mouths.

+1

And when some people say illegal nannies work harder - yeah, because they have very minimal job prospects so will do more for less in order to have a job and not be fired.
