I just don't understand how kids older the three or four throw up without making it to the sink, garbage can, or toilet. I was 5 in church one time when I figured out I was going to be sick and ran to the bathroom. I threw up a little in my mouth before I made it to the toilet but I made it there.
If you're going to be sick, seek out a toilet or trash can. Not that hard. |
| Good thing OP never interviewed at my house. I have a dc who throws up over the slightest thing.....ate too much, has a bad headache, had too much sugar, ran around too hard on a hot day, etc. We are so used to her sensitive tummy that we probably wouldn't make a big deal if she barfed in front of a potential nanny. But of course I would profusely apologize if she got any "back splash". |
I was 5 or 6 the first time i thew up. It was in the middle of the night anI had no idea what was happening to me. My mom explained next time I got that feeling to go to the bathroom so I did. It happened whenever she made chili which was a lot at that time, not sure why. But not all kids know what is happening or they're woken out of a sound sleep and literally can't get to the bathroom in time. Every person is different. |
+1. Also, OP never said how old the child was. She could have been 2 for all we know. |
|
So, you want to judge a job based on a kid getting sick on the day of your interview.
Seriously? You are way too precious to work with kids, OP. Try retail. |
| I never know that my daughter is going to be sick until she is. She'll be totally fine, suddenly vomit, and then be totally normal until she throws up again. It really is possible to not know that your kid is sick until they throw up, and young children often don't recognize that they are going to be sick, either. |
WOW! You were the perfect child, pp. Your parents must have been so proud! |

OP here
I'm really pissed because after this happened the mom, while apologetic, mentioned that the child had been throwing up all morning. If it was a first-time that day thing I would completely understand because sick kids happen but, it wasn't so I'm absolutely not okay with what happened. My current charges haven't picked up anything so I'm crossing my fingers that it stays that way. |
OP here I'm judging the job based on the parent's complete lack of respect for my health and the health of my current charges (after she apologized the mother said the child had been throwing up all morning). Sick kids happen, I take care of my charges when they're sick, but I would have expected to at least be warned there was a sick child in the house. Especially since I watch infants. |
Right. Because you just added that little extra detail that the mother told you the child was sick all morning, so you could continue to stress how wronged you were. This, of course, in true troll fashion, was missing from your initial complaint. I stand by my post. You're too precious. |

Am I alone in thinking this post is about as crazy as having a pediatrician vent that the parents had the nerve to bring a sick kid into his/her office?
Working with kids (regardless of how the child is feeling that day) IS the job of a nanny. |
I'm a PP who thought OP was wrong BUT if the parents really did know the child was sick before OP came I think they should have warned her or rescheduled. I'd feel differently if she was their regular nanny (which is similar to you pediatrician analogy) but she's not their nanny yet. She was just coming for an interview which could be easily rescheduled. It is somewhat convenient that OP is just adding this information now but I've been accused of doing that myself before when I was trying to make a post brief so I tend to believe OP in this case. I'm sorry you got thrown up on. They should have warned up before you showed up. -an MB |
What? This was about an interview, not showing up for work. OP's concern (and mine as well) is exposing my primary charges to highly contagious infections carried by other children. Postponing the interview since they knew their daughter was ill would have been the right thing to do. Or did you not read the post and just assumed it was a nanny bitching about working with sick charges? |
