OP here-
I found out I will be sharing a room with the babies. I will not be paid extra compensation for the 2 weekends I will be working extra, I will be getting that time off instead. If I'm going to be compensated in time, shouldn't I get time and a half too? So instead of 5 days off, 7 days. Or be paid extra? When I signed onto this job, I was told I would have a private room & bath- that's the only way I could be a 24hr nanny. I would never agreed to sleeping with the baby. I feel should be paid extra for this inconvenience. It's a change in all routines. And it is over Christmas!!! |
It doesn't sound like privacy is that important to you since you're willing to a get extra pay instead of your own room. Tell them you can not go unless you have your own room and you can hook the baby monitor up when you get there. As far as time and a half, that's something you would have had to negotiate with them, its not automatic. The days are interchangeable so time off for the extra days makes sense. |

Why should you get time and a half *and* paid time off? This doesn't make sense.
What is the actual problem you are trying to solve by asking for more? |
| OP- I'm not asking for time and a half pay on top of paid time off. But if I'm supposed to be paid time and a half after 40 hrs, instead I'm choosing to get time off instead of pay. Should't I get 1.5 x time off too. Time off = compensation. And I feel I should get something extra bonus for traveling & inconvenience, and extra work. |
But you already work 120 hours per week... Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but do you have a contract that states you get x dollars per hour plus time and a half for hours over 40? If so, then you should get the extra money for the extra hours, but you then should go back to working your normal schedule the next week, not have off and have the other nanny working those hours. If you accept comp time in lieu of OT, I have never seen comp time (in any industry, including domestic workers) to be given at 1.5 rate. You kind of have to pick what you want, you can't have your cake and eat it too. |
| You need to let this go. If you start getting too nitpicky you'll lose your job. |
