11:43, what's your idea of a nanny? |
My post spells it out for you, 19:02.
Maybe you should work on your reading comprehension. |
Take a look around the site/forum. Nannies are not repping you in a good light. Many appear to be low class with huge egos. And I'm a different poster than the one above. |
My point is, that you have no way of knowing who is a nanny, MB, or simply some Internet asshole with too much time. Saying "I'm a nanny/MB doesn't make it true. You also don't know how many people are posting. There is one prolific poster that has shown herself to be a nut job and I'm sure many of the posts you reference can be attributed to her. Beyond that, people on this site in general are not on their best behavior, so enough with the "nannies are low class/stupid/entitled/whatever the insult of the day is", because a couple of idiots do not represent us all. |
I agree with you 100% that no one should make assumptions about all nannies based on what a few people (maybe not even nannies) post on this website. The same goes for MBs too. However, the post you were referring to didn't say nannies are low class. It said the nannies who posted comments on this thread were low class. Big difference. |
You're right, that particular comment was not directed at nannies in general, but so many of them are and its very grating. I use this site to look for jobs, so I don't appreciate the nannies representing me poorly, or the sweeping generalizations as though we are all the same. |
I'm the PP and I completely understand how you feel. The generalizations and overall nastiness is out of control. |
Super rich people have money for a seperate person for everything - nanny, FT housecleaner who does laundry, etc. Middle class people using nannies are much more likely to see a nanny as a daytime replacement for a SAHM. Somehow SAHMs manage to juggle a few different things while also caring well for their own kids. I don't ask our nanny to do anywhere near what my SAHM friends do during a day since she is at a job, but nor do I see it as unreasonable for families to ask for meal prep, sweeping, pick-up the day's mess, etc. unless the child is very young and never naps more than 1 hour (for nanny's break).
To OP's original point - yes, you pay the same rate the whole time she is there. The hourly rate will be determined by who you want to hire and how much you want her to do during naps. Your child will grow and begin sleeping less in a matter of months - you wouldn't expect to start paying the nanny MORE then, so you don't pay her less now. |
+1. Nannies who think childcare involves nothing more than "watching" the children and being on call for the 4 hours that most babies and toddlers nap are really just babysitters with a prima donna complex. Kids are messy. Taking care of them on a full time basis involves laundry, baths, mopping up thrown food, keeping toys and highchairs etc. sanitized, preparing meals and sometimes food shopping and doctors appointments. Most mature, professional nannies know this. |
Meant to say the 2 to 4 hours that most babies and toddler nap. |
