OP- Thanks and I am going to make my rates higher to offset that. |
Sounds like a plan. And I would explain your higher weekend babysitting rates as compared to your regular nannying rate to the family nicely and rationally (and without the I GOT F-ED BY YOU GUYS attitude). |
When I babysit on a weekend, I get time and a half. Even with taxes taken out, it is still worth babysitting. |
It goes by how much you make with the family TOTAL, not just occasional babysitting on the side. So if you weren't making that much including your regular hours, then you still wouldn't have to have certain taxes taken out of that pay. If you are going above that amount for regular hours, then you definitely have to be having it done with any extra occasional work you do for them as well. No matter what though, you are required to be paying income tax on ALL of your earnings each year, no matter if you are going above the $1800/annual limit or not. |
+1 It's based on a family's payment to an individual employee. Strictly speaking, and monetary gifts or bonuses are ALSO supposed to be taxed, OP, so if they gave you a Christmas bonus or anything I'd anticipate that when tax time rolls around your total income reported will include that. It sounds like they're conscientious and eager to follow the law on this (which is to their credit). |
Any not and |
I'm amazed that OT babysitting rate is not higher than what OP would normally charge for a sitting gig. Is your week-day job just PT, OP? |
How come everyone one of you nannies post a thread such as this one, you always say 'I turned down another gig'.. EVERYTIME!!! You didn't turn down SH*T. |
I cannot believe you are complaining so much about being paid legally. You were by no means fucked over- you should EXPECT this from families that pay you enough to be legally required to withhold taxes.
Further, even the money earned from families tht ISN'T enough for the family to have to withhold taxes YOU are required legally to disclose on your tax return and pay taxes on. To not do so is tax evasion/fraud. Grow up. -a nanny sick of whining from those who want to be paid and treated like a professional only in ways that benefit hem |
The IRS does not differentiate between nannying and babysitting. It's all childcare. This family is paying you more than $1800 per year for childcare services, so it is all taxable. The threshold for the tax withholding requirement applies on a per family basis. You are still obligated to report and pay taxes on your babysitting income from families that don't meet the annual $1800 threshold, but those families are not required to withhold the taxes from your pay. |
Haha, agree! |
