Not out of line to ask her to pay. She should offer to pay if she asks you to get it. |
Why does choosing not to put something into my body that it doesn't need make me crazy? I've worked with infants for 10 years and never had a family ask me to be vaccinated for anything. If they had, I would have refused and dealt with the consequences. My body, my choice, not really your place to judge. |
Start your own thread. Please don't start an argument on this one. |
+1 I work for two doctors who said I didn't need to get it because it isn't contagious unless you have a cough and they said they'd like me to wear a germ mask or call out sick if I had a cough. Simple. |
With all the research out there, and as a nanny, I completely disagree. I am someone who does not believe in taking medication often. However, I also think it would be irresponsible to be around infants without a whooping cough vaccine. Adults can be carriers of whooping cough without actually having any symptoms and can easily pass it on to infants. ABSOLUTELY a parents place to judge. My MB required me to have it but I had it already just from being around my infant nephew. Yes, I can site the MANY MANY proven studies that show this to be true, including reccomend anions by the America Pediactric Association. I am not a nanny who normally posts on DCUM, usually just reads along, but this is something I feel really strongly about. |
This is not true. As a responsible nanny, you should have know better and have done research. |
I hope you are upfront with any family during the interview that you are anti vax. I find it surprising families would hire you if they knew. Most professions that involve working with children have some requirements for vaccinations. It is irresponsible to be anti vaccination. Full stop. I'm not going to argue with you about it PP because there really is no validity to your position. |
I had our nanny get the tdap and flu shot. I made the appointment, paid for it, and gave her a few hours off to go to the clinic. |
Agree. |
I always am. I was also upfront about it when I was a kindergarten teacher. My mother is a pediatric nurse at one of the best children's hospitals in the country and even she doesn't get the vaccine. My position is perfectly valid, it concerns my body, therefore it is my decision...so far, it's never been an issue. |
An elementary school is one thing, we are talking about infants! Not to mention, I dont believe you. Anyone working in the healthcare field with infants are legally obligated to be immunized in most states. I have never heard of anything more foolish. Period. |
I find that hard to believe about your mother. Most hospitals want all employees to have gotten Tdap, or those working with children at the very least... "According to the newest ACIP recommendations, which healthcare workers should be vaccinated against pertussis with tetanus-diphtheria-acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine? ACIP recommends the following for the use of Tdap in healthcare personnel: •All healthcare personnel (HCP), regardless of age, should receive a single dose of Tdap as soon as feasible if they have not previously received Tdap and regardless of the time since last Td dose. •Tdap is not currently licensed for multiple administrations. After receipt of Tdap, HCP should receive routine booster immunization against tetanus and diphtheria according to previously published guidelines. •Hospitals and ambulatory-care facilities should provide Tdap for HCP and use approaches that maximize vaccination rates (e.g., education about the benefits of vaccination, convenient access, and the provision of Tdap at no charge). To view this and other recommendations for healthcare personnel, go to CDC. Immunization of Health-Care Personnel. MMWR 2011;60(No. SS-7):4-46 at www.cdc.gov/mmwr/pdf/rr/rr6007.pdf." |
Want being the operative here, not require. A recomendation from the CDC does not override my personal freedom to decide what goes into my body, but nice try with the copy/paste. |
I'm a strictly newborn (well 0-2) nanny and I didnt hesitate to get vaccinated. In both nanny families I've had since getting the pertussis vaccine I am the only one whose done it, and I have asked at the interviews. Neither MBs or DBs felt it was necessary. (One family was newborn twins + toddler, second was newborn ds). However I disagree so I got the shot. I would be devastated to know I had passed something so deadly onto a helpless baby. |
we required it and paid for it as well as we paid for flu shots. |
