The parents will probably pay for it and be relieved that you aren't one of those crazy nannies who will not get it or worse takes the money and then doesn't get the shot. The vaccine will also be useful for you in future jobs. The higher end agencies require vaccinations and promote in their sales pitches that they screen out nannies who are not up-to-date on their vaccines.
Why does choosing not to put something into my body that it doesn't need make me crazy? I've worked with infants for 10 years and never had a family ask me to be vaccinated for anything. If they had, I would have refused and dealt with the consequences. My body, my choice, not really your place to judge.
With all the research out there, and as a nanny, I completely disagree. I am someone who does not believe in taking medication often. However, I also think it would be irresponsible to be around infants without a whooping cough vaccine. Adults can be carriers of whooping cough without actually having any symptoms and can easily pass it on to infants. ABSOLUTELY a parents place to judge. My MB required me to have it but I had it already just from being around my infant nephew. Yes, I can site the MANY MANY proven studies that show this to be true, including reccomend anions by the America Pediactric Association. I am not a nanny who normally posts on DCUM, usually just reads along, but this is something I feel really strongly about.
