+1. MB here who works full time outside the house. I would never treat my AP this way. She is the person who is caring for my children. I know it is a job, but it is the most important job anyone in my life has. Yes, I love my decompressing time, but that now has to occur before I step through the door. Don't you want to hear how the day was? What your kids did? How they ate? How they behaved? Or -deep breath here- how HER day was? To go on topic - there is nothing my AP does that rises to the level of annoying me because she is such an amazing AP - and she lives with us. |
| I am the Paper Towel Queen nanny. I would *never* touch another person's kitchen or bathroom towel. But every paper towel I use, is well used. (I wash my hands a lot.) I don't get sick either, so far. I can blame my OCD hygiene on having worked in medical offices. |
22:26, you sound like an awesome mb. |
Yes. I used to use a loofa mitt but broke out in rash and dermatologist told me to stop using it, and washcloths, because they were laden with nacyeria. Even though I poured boiling water over loofa every week. That was 10 years ago and haven't had a rash since then. Four sheets of Bounty, filded ovrr, makes a great wachcloth. |
You do know you can...wash...washcloths, right? After each use, if you like... |
|
Or use a mesh body puff, or even just use shower gel with your hands.
From an article that tells you when to throw away 18 common household items... "Loofah When to toss: After three or four weeks. Bacteria can build up in the crevices and infect you via an open cut or acne, says Birgit Toome, M.D., a cosmetic dermatologist in New Jersey. Plus, a loofah loses its ability to slough off dry skin after a few weeks. Mesh puffs are more resistant to bacteria and can last for eight weeks." |
| I like using paper towels for bathroom and kitchen. As an earlier PP noted, we also never get colds or get sick. As for washcloths. yhry hatbor bacteria as well. Try it and you will find you like it. |
1) BS. 2) That's why you wash them. Get white ones and bleach them even, but do you not understand that properly laundering linens KILLS the bacteria? |
I'm also a nanny with a 30 min commute in SoCal. I leave an hour early on rainy days and read in my car if I'm early. It's called being professional, late is not acceptable. |

Our previous nanny was lazy. I would find dried play dough and paint on the chairs. Every weekend I would organize the toys and by Tuesday everything would be all over the house. She was the type who would let the kids scatter pieces of game or stuff all over the house and then throw whatever into bins. My kids napped for 3+ hours a day and she would sit on the couch and read a book.
At first the messes she left were just annoying BUT after awhile I realized that we were wasting money paying someone a high amount to sit on the couch for 3 hours. We replaced her with a nanny that is not lazy and does light housekeeping. SO MUCH BETTER!!! |

I don't understand the value of this thread. My nanny does some tiny things that occasionally mildly annoy me. I'm sure she can say the same about me. I can also say that about my kids, my husband, my best friend, my boss, etc...
But overall my nanny is terrific. She is loving, responsible, reliable, experienced, honest, fun, engaged, creative, etc... I could focus on the quirky little things that I don't love, or I can focus on the huge, important things that make her a major reason for my children's happiness and health and my family's well-being overall. If you focus on the negative then that's what you see/think. If you hired someone you value and trust, and he/she does the job you want in a way you want, then you should focus on the big picture. None of us are perfect and I really think the whole focus of this thread (and often this whole forum) is really counter-productive for healthy nanny/boss relationships. |
Thanks for posting this. I was just thinking of the 1-2 nitpick things I have about my nanny, but they can't compare to the love she gives my child, the activities she does with her, and her general ability at her job! |
Thanks for posting! Good attitude. I'd be happy to have you as an MB. |
