OP ignore the nasty nannies. They are crazy. If you're in Gaithersburg, do you have a good sized yard? Playing outside is great for a 5 year old. You can set up obstacle courses with things you find around the house, go on a search for sticks, get a shovel and let him dig dirt, or just play with a ball. Bubbles are fun and painting is a good activity to do outside.
