Pumping in front of nanny?

A while back a nanny posted that she found it distracting that MB was trying to breastfeed and have a conversation about their day at the same time. As long as you're not trying to engage the nanny for several minutes while you're doing it, it is probably ok.

As a previous nanny, the first time I experienced a MB breastfeeding their twins I was caught a little off guard and was a little uncomfortable. I grew up in a very conservative household, so I was not exposed to breastfeeding around other people. My mother breastfed my younger siblings, but she always covered up. In this nanny position the mother would ask me to help her get the babies to latch etc and it did make me squirm a bit. However, I got use to it quickly and it no longer bothers me.

I would either just keep doing what you are comfortable with (and the nanny will start to become use to it). Or you can just ask your nanny if it makes her uncomfortable (and she will probably say no and not act so strange).

Americans are so weird about nudity. I'm from Canada and really we just don't care. Baby has to eat, this is normal & healthy. Any nanny who objects to that needs a new profession.

It doesn't always have to do JUST with what country you are from, but with your family and how you were raised. I am from Canada too, but we didn't have people over to our house and just start to breastfeed their kids without covering up or let people know so they could leave the room. As a nanny, I was uncomfortable the first few times I had an MB do that in front of me, but since my job involves me working with mothers that need to breastfeed, I got used to it quickly. In my own personal life, I would be fine with a close friend doing that around me, but I still get a little bit weirded out for a moment when someone that I don't know well just whips a boob out without saying something (or even if they do).
