About a week ago, same question was asked:

Similar thread from earlier in September: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/583790.page#9537208

And restaurant suggestions for the city in question: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/547037.page#8669917

That should give the OP plenty to go on.

I stayed at Dauphine Orleans and really liked it. Nothing special but really nice and in a great location.

I didn't love the monteleone. Too frilly for my taste.

Do not stay on Bourbon! Monteleone is a favorite. Make sure to stop in at the Carousel Bar there.

Go to Magazine St. it's a fun street with shops and restaurants. Get a macaron at Sucre.

My sisters live outside of NOLA. I have been a ton. Some favorites:
Ralph's on the Park
Mr B's
Biscuits on Banks
Stanley's
Shaya (amazing Isralian food-magazine st)
EAT
Arabella casa di pasta (Marigny StClaude, best Italian food in New Orleans)
Stella (John besh)
Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop (1700s bar)

Omni Royal Orleans or Monteleone

Both give you access to the FQ without being on a crazy street.

If you've never been to New Orleans, you'll probably want to stay in/near the French Quarter. Loads of history, great restaurants, great bars, street performers everywhere.
I've stayed at many hotels in and around the Quarter, in all price ranges, so it's hard to have a specific recommendation. Same with restaurants. Pick up a guide book, research a few websites.
It's really one of the most fun cities in the world. You'll have a great time.

I'm planning an anniversary trip with just DH in a few weeks. It's a last minute trip, obviously. We have never been to New Orleans and both want to go. Where should we stay? Specific hotels and parts of the city would be appreciated! We want to walk around the city, eat good food and just relax.
