2020 Anxiety

Anonymous
I've gone through little bouts of anxiety when in high stress situations for a period of time, buy generally don't have anxiety during regular life. And now 2020 has just pushed me over the edge and I'm not sleeping and angry all the time and I dont want to get out of bed.

Is a therapist worth it, or will it be the obvious "you can't control the future" "practice some self care" type shit?

Nothing in particular is going on with me that's not happening for everyone (I teach and have 2 kids, all virtual, working 10-12 hour days and weekends, haven't seen family since February, kids behavior fluctuates, I miss my life...). I feel like it's not a situation of "this will all be over soon" or "if you don't like xyz change it".

Therapy would be a waste of time, yes. What you've stated you think it would be is exactly correct.

Meditation and exercise. Meditation and exercise. Meditation and exercise.

I disagree that therapy will be useless. Therapy will give you coping mechanisms and allow you to get yourself worries and anxiety out in a safe place with a professional. I don’t see why it wouldn’t help and why you would be against it if you didn’t even try it

Get on an antidepressant.

Therapy will help in the sense that it can help you practice reframing and not to catastrophrize.

Read “when panic attacks” by David burns. Or any one of his books.

Unfortunately 10-12 hour workdays doesn't leave much time for exercise. I'm in the same boat as the OP since the school year started.

Agreed.

I feel like one of the main reasons I'm coping reasonably well during this pandemic is from the CBT therapy I did years ago.

Therapy had always always helped me, no matter what circumstance. Just being able to talk things through helps.
