Anyone know if the power has been restored to CC/Friendship Heights area?

Are you being sarcastic about staying warm? You must be. Its boiling here.

In case you hadn't noticed someone resurrected a February thread so at the time I'm sure the poster was in fact cold.

That makes much more sense. My bad!

ha ha ha! Not the poster you quoted, but when I read this I didn't notice the dates and thought the same thing! Ah, the irony.

Minor....Really?

I am in Rockville and I thought it was a tornado at first.

I agree! What is Pepco's deal? And it takes so long to restore power? Really? Pepco sucks. The same storm hit NoVa with less outages.

While it wasn't exactly a "minor" storm (I thought there was some tornadic activity), it was over quickly. And now, 24 hours later, half of MoCo still doesn't have power? And Pepco is unable to keep up their website or give info to any other media outlets regarding how long we might have to wait for power to come back?

I've lived in this area almost my entire life, and barring real natural "disasters" like a hurricane or the blizzards, I've never encountered such a quick weather event that has caused such lengthy and extensive outages.

Giant Pepco fail.

Not to be a Pepco apologist, but that storm was incredibly damaging. It looked like a hurricane out there. And with this one, we didn't have any warning like we would with a hurricane that would allow Pepco to mobilize better. Also, just because you don't see a downed tree in your neighborhood doesn't mean there isn't one that knocked down the line that feeds into your line. It takes time to clear the trees, get the crew to the scene, track and diagnose the problem. I don't think it's a simple as we think. And, yes, I am one of the thousands w/o power and have lost 2 fridges/freezers full of food and am sweating it out with the kiddos in the evening (writing from work now). I am sympathetic to the linespeople who, I believe, are doing their best to get our power back. Maybe we can cut them some slack? Now I'm going to dive under cover awaiting the frustrated hordes who will slam me along w/Pepco.

why are they unable to provide any estimate of when the power might be restored? why doesn't their website even allow you to see whether your power is on or not?

Sorry but it's people like you that just accept the crap that Pepco spews that keeps us from getting better services. I grew up in "tornado alley" and we had several violent thunderstorms a year along with actual tornados and you know what? In 22 years I can recall the power being out for more than an hour a grand total of ONE time--during an ice storm when the power was out just overnight. We had many storms that warranted a tornado warning that never even turned off the power. Part of the problem us that Pepco refuses to cut back all the trees growing up through their lines--if the electric company in the poor area I grew up in could come out and trim trees every year, you'd think Pepco could do it at least once ever. Also, WTF is up with Pepco's rates this year? Our electric bill was the same amount in January (when we were using gas heat) as it was last July with a/c on constantly. Why can't our elected leaders do something about this?

I agree. Pepco doesn't do the necessary maintenance year round. A storm occurs, they're not prepared so they run up a huge expense recruiting crews from other regions - then we get overcharged with inflated rates. Total BS! Fire their CEO asap. Loser.

We finally got our power back tonight, after 8 p.m. (in Gaithersburg).

Is there any way to file a complaint to Pepco so that they can fix a root cause?
Currently, I live in McLean and we lost power only a few hours on Sunday. However, I'm going to move to Potomac in Sept. and I'm very worried about a power outage issue.
Does anybody own a generator at home?
Is it worthwhile buying it?

Thanks.

yeah, it looks like 1/2 of Gaithersburg got power last night at the same time the other half lost it. Literally the street behind me and everything else I had noticed was out got power while I and everyone around me who had it lost power...Seriously, why the hell are people losing power 30 hours after the event? Pepco is obviously pulling some shit.

Don't dog Pepco for failing to trim trees. Montgomery County won't let them do it.
