St. Albans and working moms

Anonymous
What percentage of St. Albans mom work? It seems like once women hit their mid-30's at all the area private schools. many choose to stay home. That's always surprising to me considering how many extremely well educated and liberal moms are at these schools.

Well educated liberal moms are supposed to work until they die? I didn't know that.

A surprising number do not. I'd say 50%?
There's a lot of money at the Cathedral schools. Many men who are at the top of their (elite) professional careers. (Many women too but many families tend to
have one worker when they start making stratospheric wages).
We're a two income, professional class family each making low 6 figures and I feel like we're in a tiny minority.

Well your premise is in incorrect. St. Albans is not mostly liberal moms. It is mostly republicans in my two sons grades. The administration and Cathedral may be more liberal leaning but the current parents and boys are not. NCS, Sidwell, Holton, and GDS are where you will find more liberal moms.

Agree with this as well. It is a very conservative student (family) body. NCS is different--much more liberal. STA is very, very republican, including Trump republican. It has been an eye opener to us.

I've never understand why both parents choose to work full time in soulless work when only one has to. Greed is the only explanation I can come up with.

If this is true, then it makes sense that they would be more likely to prescribe to more traditional gender roles than some other schools.

Spoken like a true clueless stay at home parent. Some people actually have meaningful jobs and also get to help others. Ie it has nothing to do with greed. Thinking of and helping others, not just who won the CCC tennis tournament, is invaluable to shaping productive members of society. And lots have to work.

This is DC no one is truly that conservative and STA parent body is still predominately liberal. I know lots of liberal stay at home moms. They are the first to espouse feminism and ultimately end up dropping out of the work force.

A lot of people enjoy going to work. If you don't like your work you should change jobs.

Signed....truly loved going to work every day the last 30 years of my life.
