Is having an Orgasm absolutely necessary for conception?

What? Of course not. Think of all the poor teens who get pregnant, especially on the first try. You know most of them are having bad sex.

As others have said not necessary (and I know for a fact I didn’t with our first). BUT I saw a documentary years ago showing how the cervix dips into the “reserve” during orgasm so I imagine it helps.

It is not absolutely necessary. That's not a true statement. However, it does help in the process. The orgasm triggers the cervix to dip down into the pool of ejaculate and draw it up. From an evolutionary perspective, this is part of sexual selection. Women are more likely to have orgasms with men who they perceive to have superior genotypes, men who are usually not their partners.

Yeah, first I laughed at the question, and then I was angry about the implications of people believing this.

Exactly. I'm rather horrified that this is being asked and the implications of believing that all pregnancies result from female orgasm.

Sorry for triggering. To answer the question though - on an empirical scientific basis it seems like yes O is correlated with better TTC outcomes. Agree/disagree?

Any correlation is because people who are orgasming during sex are likely having sex more frequently than someone who isn’t enjoying the process as much.

I was actually wondering about the opposite. I just had a really strong orgasm on day 6 DPO (we did the deed 4 days before, day of, day after and day after that).
After this orgasm I started having a lot of cramps and now I’m thinking I ruined the chances of implantation.

No way. If that were the case, humans would have been extinct long ago or much much more attention would be on the female orgasm.

+1 or you’re orgasming bc it’s the fertile time of the month and you’re more turned on. Or because you were turned on and this made more natural lube which helped the sperm stay alive.

Haha logically I know it’s true but to me it makes so much sense why an orgasm would help. I do hate how after doing the deed even if I put my legs in the air for thirty minutes a lot of it falls out and I wonder if any of it even makes it past the cervix.

I...sex ed is so bad everywhere.

While I generally agree with this, it misses out on a key aspect here:

- it is only effective if the orgasm comes after male ejaculation has already happened inside, so there is a pool for the cervix to dip down into.

But this specific timing seems not ordinary in TTC, don’t you agree?

Yes, I agree. However, the cervical contractions don't necessarily begin at the same time as orgasm.

Only the male orgasm is required for pregnancy.

Male required? Sure.

But both? Helpful.

Whhhaaaat??

Why don't you do what ever gets you off DURING sex?

Bwa ha ha.

In Medieval Times, didn’t they believe that it had to pleasurable for the woman (“the little death”) in order for conception? That of course meant that, in their eyes 1) rape resulting in pregnancy was the woman’s fault (see Todd Akin “legitimate rape” comments, ugh 2) if a woman couldn’t get pregnant, it was her fault 3) husbands probably thought they were amazing in bed since the wives had to lie. So much misogyny.
