What's the biggest thing you've sacrificed?

Gave up FT work from 34-42 while we raised 3 kids born in 5 years, chased hers from DC to SF, to Seattle with long trips or short postings (depending on perspective) all over South East Asia and Africa.

Her career exploded and she's now a SME in an extremely desirable filed.

All my opportunities vanished because I was on the sideline. Started out in a whole new field but did so at 44 so probably going nowhere.

It was a bad idea.

+1. I assume you are a man. The work force has no tolerance for men who take time off to raise children. Not much for women either, I know, but even much less for men

Look around. Most people start their own small biz once 45 or 50 yo. They are tired of the Bs office politics, don’t want to relocate, no promotion spots open for years, etc. You don your own thing. Always be networking.

Allowing my wife to dictate where our family lives, who are friends are, and ultimately, how the marriage should me. After 3 kids, I lost of the strong and driven person I was.

Financial security. I used to save for retirement, go to the dentist twice a year and drive a reliable car. I'm now trying to figure out how to get the mortgage paid this month, chase off some medical bill collectors and deal with a tax bill due in April.

Same here.

Why? Why is she so bad and was she always this way?

Has never liked oral. Not very adventurous. As vanilla as can be. Talks about it make her squeamish.

My college girlfriend was not marriage material but wow she was a sexual dynamo. Raised the bar for all who followed, none have touched it

Why did you marry her?

Prioritized DH's career at the expense of my own. I do work part-time, but it's outside of my intended career path.
Living all over (London, NYC, DC, SF) and moving every 4-5 years. Awesome in many ways, but I never feel completely settled and it's like I'm always saying goodbye to friends and starting over. And so much of the hidden work related to these moves falls to me.

We connected in a lot of the ways that we both deemed important -- faith, ideas about family, values. But I think she is the classic case of the woman who faked enthusiasm for sex before marriage. It's not something she is comfortable talking about.

The college girlfriend was incredibly immature and shallow, but in bed, wow...

Interesting. No one mentions putting up with all the shit from their spouse.

no sex

Hi. I can help you with your second and final point AT THE SAME TIME.

You would not need to worry about fertility issues with me. My boys will land on your egg like the Rangers did on Pointe du Hoc on D-Day.

I can’t think of anything. I don’t think most couples sacrifice really big things.

I’m the breadwinner by multiples. I met my DH young and never thought I’d be the one with the career. He has struggled with his but not for lack of trying. I’m just a very hard worker and lucked out a bit. It kind of suck because I always wanted to be home when my kids were young.

Giving up on being with the woman I truly love.
