Yeah, when you see a lot of teams with play ups, that's usually a sign they are having trouble filling out their rosters.
I respect that Arlington is throwing open its doors and simply looking for talent wherever it comes from. I look forward to watching them in action. Good luck this weekend! |
| Check the game reports. Arlington took play-ups over 06s that left. |
Ahh, fits with what I was saying: play ups are a sign of problems filling out rosters. But that's just one age group, so it may normalize after this year. We'll see... |
That’s a rather general statement. Play ups can be a sign of that or there may be a few special players who have the capacity to play with the older age group and the club seeks to challenge those players. I wouldn’t make the blanket statement that 07s playing on an 06 team means that there is or was trouble filling the roster though. A well developed and talented 07 can be just as good as a talented 06, depending on their physical and mental maturity. |
| ^^^I don't know of any club in NOVA where that's the case that you have that "special" player on multiple teams within a single club. When it's a normal thing, it's a roster problem. IMG had the same issue so they have the same practice: lots of playing up. |

And like I said, it might be and it might not. I have seen plenty of below age players who can outplay kids in the next higher age group. Given the choice, I’d prefer the younger player. The ones who become angriest about that are the parents of kids in the older age group. That’s life.
It’s ok, we can agree to disagree. There’s no right or wrong answer here, just opinions. |
Right, just not at any of the higher level teams. Like a PP said, not at the DA level. |
|
Usually parents get angry when it drops the level of play on the team. When that kid does well, they are happy. I know I would be. I want my kid training and playing with the best. But at our club, none of our play ups qualify as the best. They just water down the level for everyone.
Such is life. We'd prefer the club have a higher level of talent. They just don't right now. |
| A general observation, some people in this thread have a real issue with a difference of opinion. Rather than acknowledging it and moving on, they’d rather get the last word in and disregard the opposing view, no matter the specific subject. This happens over and over again, but unfortunately, making the last post doesn’t “win” the argument for you. |
I agree entirely. |
| I thought I would follow RSD’s example and own my posts here. I watched my DD’s 04 game against FCV this afternoon. They lost, not a surprise, but not by as much as before. 3-0, and one of the goals was unlucky because the FCV player kicked it out of the keeper’s hands after a save. It looks to me like the defense is working well, the midfield is shaky, and the forwards are not effective. My DD tells me the coaching has been focused on the back and is moving forward. They’ll still contend for last place in the division, but the team is improving and holding their own agains a very talented FCV team. I’d like to see them play Mclean or BRYC or another ECNL team in a scrimmage. |
| The FCV teams are very talented. Fast play and accurate shots. The benches are almost as strong as the starters. It is interesting that a lot of good players would rather ride bench for FCV than start at other DA/ECNL options.. |
U17s did pretty well too with a final score of 0-2. The match was more even than even the score line reflects. |
| The younger Spirit teams got destroyed by FCV: 5-1 for the U14s and 10-0 against for the U13s. |
| How'd Arlington do? |
