Do you worry about terrorism when you travel to Europe?

I wasn't worried at all about terrorism when I went to Paris last year. In fact, I reassured my teenage dc that there was absolutely nothing to be concerned about -- we live in DC, which is also a target, etc etc

When we landed at CDG, it was a mob scene, because there was an active shooter at Orly and they were sending all of the passengers over from there. While we were there, there was the incident in London at Westminster on the bridge. There have been incidents since we were there. Those who are belittling you for being concerned are the ones who are being ridiculous.

For those saying that you'd be more likely to be in a mass shooting in the US, I'd like to see data on that. The US is a huge country. France is roughly the size of Texas and has about 1.6 times the population. They do have a LOT of incidents per capita in Europe. It's not stopping me from going, but it is ridiculous to downplay what is going on over there.

We were in Paris with our two kids and while I thought about it a bit before we left, I never thought it about while we were there.

My family and I spent two weeks in Paris last month. Never once did I feared for my life like I do here in the states. Between the ghetto hoodrats, rural rednecks, and gun crazies here in the United States of America I feel safer when I travel to Europe. I'm black and I travel to Europe every summer. I feel more carefree and at peace in Paris than I do in say Baltimore or South Carolina that's for sure. I'm going to Rome around Christmas. Nothing and no one will stop me from traveling to Europe. With American terrorism roaming freely here I can assure you that Europe is safer.

Go travel to Europe and have fun! Life is too short to waste time living in fear and obsessing about a potential threat. I say this a black lady who has traveled all over the world and back. Sometimes I'm the only spot of caramel as far as the eyes can see when I travel to certain places around the world. Even with that I continue to travel because I love it. I love the cultural exchange and new experiences. Traveling is like a heaven to me. I get taste of it and continue going back for more because international travel enriches my soul and my life. Europe is so phenomenal! I couldn't imagine not visiting cities like London or Paris because of the media's obsession with injecting fear into the minds of Americans. Do not allow the media to delude you into thinking that traveling to Europe is somehow a danger to your life.

I stop listening to the media years ago because the American media is bias. It distorts facts, plays on people's insecurities, and orchestrates division. The American media brainwashes the masses. Seek your own truth!

I just moved to London for my job and I feel safe here. It is a big capital city, and no more dangerous than DC or NYC.

I lived in a few other European countries and never felt unsafe in any of them, or in any of the extensive travel I've done while living in Europe.

You'll be fine.

I’m a native New Yorker living in DC. I don’t think about it at all. What I have learned is that when things happen there’s a very small group of people who were in the wrong time at the very small wrong place. For everyone else, stay calm, get out of the way. At any time, anywhere, I could be the person at the wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t live my life worrying about it.

I also don’t worry about terrorism in NYC or gang violence when I’m visiting Chicago and Baltimore.

OP, although terrorism ranks fairly low on the list of things likely to kill you in the US or Europe, I'm not so sure that having your head in the sand like many posters is a good thing. They obviously have a pro-muslim agenda and will downplay any type of Islamic extremist terrorism like ISIS. Apparently they conveniently forgot about the Paris attack in 2015, which was the deadliest terrorist attack in French history. The Bastille Day attack was only a few years ago as well.

Statistically it makes far more sense to worry about men with guns in the US than about terrorism in Europe.

And automobile accidents are a much bigger threat, though that is hardly mentioned because of some peoples obsession with guns and gun control.

False analogy. You can control a lot when it comes to cars. Car make, how you drive, when you drive, etc. are all significant contributing factors to auto accidents. With guns, you cannot control anything, except perhaps by living in states with stricter gun laws, as they have decreased rates of gun death. Therefore as far as worries about events that can harm me, I worry far more about US gun violence.

I realize the pro-gun lobby wants to make this car analogy a thing, but it stretches credibility.

When I last visited years ago, there was no such threat. Am I being silly? I’m trying to hide my anxiety from my kids, who are beyond excited.

You will be fine I am sure. I wouldn’t advertise being American and be cautious but I am sure it will be okay. Have a good trip.

I've seen open-carrying twice since the election near Dupont circle - once near the 7-Eleven on 19th and M, and another time further north, closer to the Circle. Don't remember seeing it ever before. Scary...

Parisian here, living in the suburbs. NO, it's not safe. At least not 100%.

I have stopped going into Paris unless I really had to.

I wouldn't travel to a place where there's been so much threats.

Of course you have to keep living but really, go somwhere else if you are worried or travel with kids. Please.

Wrong. You can control a lot with gun violence. Don't live in an area where the vast majority of homicides occur (SE DC). Don't deal drugs. Don't join a gang. Don't resist someone who is robbing you. It doesn't really matter because you are more likely to get killed in a car accident anyway.

I realize the pro-gun lobby wants to make this car analogy a thing, but it stretches credibility.
