OP once again -- I *heart* you all!
To those of you who are nay-sayers -- If there wasn't a professional/work factor here, I would have already done it. I am capped out in my position and could conceivably be a supervisor, but have declined that position in the past for various reasons. I'm mostly behind the scenes - never in a courtroom. I spend most of my day in front of a computer. I guess some people think it looks ugly - but I obviously think it's quite pretty - so that's not concerning to me. It's also not my concern that I'm getting older. If it starts to accentuate my wrinkles - I'll take it out - haha! To those who support the idea and those who have done it already -- bravo! Thanks for giving me a little more courage to pursue my inner rebel (as one of you properly pointed out)! What the hell, maybe I'll go for it! No one answered my question about professional piercing studios - for the few of you who have a nose piercing - where did you get it done? |
My favorite place is Jinx Proof in Georgetown. I've gotten all my piercings there, except for my tongue webbing. They wouldn't do that one. |
jesus, the people on this board are so bloody conservative. i think small nose studs (especially if you have a lovely nose) look really nice. however, i understand that if you work in a conservative environment you might want to think twice about wearing a nose stud. perhaps you could get it pierced and then just wear the stud when not at work? |
I've heard Piercing Pagoda is a good place to go, but I don't know where it is.
My Pilates trainer has a tiny little stud her nose and I like it. She is not Indian, she is over 40, beautiful mom of 3 and it does not look tacky or distasteful, IMO. |
I used the place in College Park to get my tongue done 11 years ago. I thought they were great and professional then, but have no idea what they are like nowadays. It is right on route 1 in College Park, above the Potbelly's (yes, the place is still there - I drove by it two days ago). I used other places (not DC area) to get my nose, belly button, and lip done 15-20 years ago. I loved my piercings, did not find them to be painful or difficult to keep clean, and did find that it helped me feel like I was "releasing my inner rebel." I took the last of those piercings out when I was 30 because I just started to feel too grown up for them.
For what it's worth, now I think it just looks sort of stupid and unprofessional, but I don't really care either way. I definitely would not prevent someone from getting promotions because of it....I think as a hiring manager it would just sort of be a non-issue to me even though I personally would think it was silly. If you want it, I think you should go for it. It's not like it has to be permanent! If you feel like you are being treated unfairly for it now or in the future, you can always decide to take it out. |
