Nose Piercing - should I get one? Any professional Piercing Studios nearby?

Anonymous
I've been wanting to get my nose pierced for a long time now but wonder how it will be percieved at work. I work for the Fed. Govt. at the Justice Dept. so I fear it will be looked at as unprofessional. What do others think? I'm 33 years old, if it makes a difference.

Also, I'd want to have this done in a professional piercing studio - are there any in DC or in NOVA that are recommended?

Ugh. Totally unprofessional. (You asked.)

yeah, unless you're Indian I think its probably unprofessional, especially now that you're in your 30's. I would love to do a lot of funky things like that too, but I think I'm past the mark for those types of things now.

Haha! You are right, I did (OP here) - I want unbiased opinions here. I should have specified, I just want a very tiny stud. I've never had any tatoos or other sorts of piercings (except the usual ear piercings) - for what it's worth.

OP again - I've thought about this -- why is it ok for Indian women but not others?

I don't care how big it is. It's unprofessional. You'll never get another promotion.

Don't do it. It's culturally acceptable/appropriate for Indian woman not for you, unless you're Indian. That's just the way it is, you asked.

Why would you want to get your nose pierced?

Don't do it.

It would be ok if you were in a creative industry job-- graphic designer or something-- but not the fed. It's just the wrong atmosphere for any kind of self-expression that even hints at counter-culture.

As for why it's ok for Indian women... in some Hindu communities it's an indicator of marital status. We don't have that tradition here.

You only live once. Let your inner rebel out. Go for it!

If Michelle can go sleeveless, I think you can go pierced.

Is she married to the president?

By the way, DH is Indian and I'm begging him to let me pierce my nose and he says NO NO. Not even Indian women are doing it anymore. And depending on the side you pierce it means different things so please read a little more.

I like nose piercings, especially the little tiny diamond ones. But then again, I'm an artist. I can pierce whatever I want and not care what anyone thinks.

Yes, you should absolutely do it OP. The oppressive conservatism in this town is repulsive. Don't like it? Don't do it.

My SAHM sister (38) is doing it this year.
