Choose just one: Cat or Dog

Dog! Cats scare me.

I just don't want them in the house. I don't care how often you scoop, your house smells like cat. The idea of a box of poop is gross to me. I have friends who have cats. They scoop several times a day. The house still smells like cat. This is an animal that walks around in it's poop box then tracks poopy feet all over the house. No. Not for me.

I'm not a super obsessive about the floors. My dogs get the floors dirty and shed. But they aren't walking around after sifting through poop.

I think different people are sensitive to different things. I have an electronic litter box, high ceilings, and tons of windows (most of which are at least a little open unless it's really cold out because I love fresh air). My house does not smell like cat, and even friends with cat allergies have been surprised to see my cats make an appearance after they had been there for a couple of hours. On the other hand, I used to live in a bigger condo building and I could smell when a dog had passed through the lobby without seeing it. I like dogs and we will probably get one later when we have a yard and older children, but the way they smell really bothers me, and I prefer the independence of a cat so I don't have to feel guilty about being gone at work all day, or going away for vacation, etc. They're also a lot easier to care for (e.g. when we go away for vacation we have a catsitter come every other day to check on them and periodically empty the trash bag in the base of the litter box. They have an electronic feeder for these occasions).

Cat! I do have a dog I love very much but dogs are so much more work and there is nothing better than a cat that snuggles up in your lap. We currently have two kitties. I have friends and family that claim cats are aloof and anti-social but all the cats we've adopted have been friendly and affectionate. They answer to their names and they greet us at the door. They even play with each other and snuggle together. They even love our dog and snuggle up with him. Cats are just wonderful!

Dog.

(I'm allergic to cats!)

Our 6 year old cat recently learned to use the toilet (we used the Litter Kwitter training kit, and it took her about a month before she was using it without the training rings), so no more litter box!

She's super smart and affectionate, but she only wants pets from "her" people, and she loves me best. She also has the cutest little chirp that she uses to answer questions.

We had dogs when I was growing up and they were OK, but I"m really a cat person.

(and a pet that uses the toilet trumps a pet that needs to be walked outside to go)

We cheated and chose both.

PASS

(but I'd choose cat, less work, but still too hairy which is why I'll pass)

FYI: Humans are animals that poop in a bowl. And my beloved dog used to eat poop from time to time. So there's that.

Dog. I grew up with both and have both now. Dogs are true companions, cats are company.

Former dog person, now 100% cat person. Dogs smell and no way do I want to be on their schedule. My cats adore me and love to be snuggled, but I can go away for a day or two and not have to worry about them.

Car, so many breeds to choose from... ford family, honda family, subaru line, etc

In the second frame, the person feeds a cat and the cat thinks: "You feed me, therefore I am a god."

It sums things up nicely, I think.

This is hilarious, thanks pp. I choose dog. I have a cute little dog & she makes me so happy. She snuggles into my lap every time I sit. She pretty much sits wherever I am in the house. She gets so happy when I come home and she is never rude to me.

We had both dogs and cats when I was growing up, but I'm really a cat person at heart, or so I believed for about 30 years. 3 years ago, a friend knew of a dog that needed a foster home, and I said okay, sure. That dog saved my life. I have depression, and was considering suicide every day for about a year prior. I would have hated to uproot my cat to a relative's home if I died, but she would have adapted. The dog- I can never leave him. I can't bring myself to change his life so much, again- he's already had too much trauma.

We're adapting to life, together.

Aw. Hang on to life with your adoring pup, PP!

My cat is behind my head and my dog is beside me on the couch. If I had to pick one, it would be cat because I have had her longer. Or maybe the dog, because cat loves everyone and adjusts easier. I don't know. Thank goodness I have plenty of love for both!

2 nights ago my kid had a cold and all the pets were worried. I slept with him, and we woke up with 2 cats and a dog on the bed with us. They never do that! Animals care for their people.

My cats have their own bathroom I clean daily, and it is far from our main living area. My house doesn't smell of pet at all. I keep slipcovers on and wash them weekly too. I also bathe the dog weekly because dogs are naturally smellier. Also, dogs fart and cats don't so IMO the litter box thing cancels out.
