Has anyone noticed all the biracial child models in most catalogs?

I get the impression that totally Black or Asian children are not sought after. They seem to want the fairer skinned European featured mixed race children, especially the girls.
What is the message?
Does it make a difference if you contact the retailers and ask, why they do that? Will that get them to change?

"What is the message?"

The US is a melting pot?? We are all one??

The melting pot idea is great, but since they photograph White children, then they should also photgraph Black children. Yes they should have biracial kids, but they have very very few Black children.

I think you're confused about the purpose of advertising.

Not saying it's right but advertising is market driven and caters to certain demographic target audiences.

This is nothing new. Look at cosmetic advertisements. Most of the models "of color" have very European features. It's just a byproduct of the fact that we live in a society that is ruled by European standards of beauty. I didn't grow up here, and I'm glad I was exposed to different standards of beauty growing up. I can't imagine how difficult it is to raise little black girls to be confident with the images they are bombarded with everyday.

I noticed this as a child and used to feel infuriated by it. Some kinds of black are better than others -- it's common knowledge in the black community. I'm sure that is what part of the furor over the Angela Bassett/Halle Berry flap was. Someone with Halle or Thandie's looks will always have it better than someone with Angela's. Even Naomi Campbell is mixed.

OP, I've noticed the opposite over the last few years. In the late 90's/early 00's, it was rare to see an ad or show featuring an African American family where the daughter was not biracial. But I remember having a discussion recently with a friend that little girls with darker skin tones are appearing more frequently in the media. I'm sure the numbers still aren't great, but maybe there's been some progress (I hope)

I have noticed that black women, when paired with black men, are often paired with men who are darker than the woman, not so much the opposite.

Naomi is mixed?

Naomi Campbell is not biracial.

I've noticed a lot of black, dark-skinned female models, like Alec Wek (?)

Thought Naomi Campbell is part Asian from her father's side.

I always liked the old Benetton ads...one of the few companies who likes to represent every shade.

I read somewhere that Naomi is part Chinese part Jamaican, but I'm not sure if that is true.

I think Angela Bassett is totally hot.

Here's a better question for you. Why are McDonald's commercials that have Blacks and Latinos as the stars advertising their crappy food. Their commercials for the gourmet coffees have white actors playing the star role, why is that?

Biracial people are typically considered to be more beautiful because they have features from more than just one race. I watched a documentary on just this subject a few years ago. When people of all races were asked to pick the best looking people out of a stack of photos, they all picked the bi or multi racial people. The woman that was considered to be the most beautiful was a mix of black, white, and Asians.
