Do you spend too much on any particular item?

401K.
Last year, our retirement investments lost 1/3 in value.
After which, everything else seems trivial.

Eating out is definitely our waste of money problem. Thanks to whoever started this thread, because it motivated me to get back on track about what's important

Really??? I love this response. I love Hermes scarves too. And hey, they're easier on the wallet than the handbags.

Handbags -- have bought three that cost more than $800. Magazines.

Target. In lieu of buying suits and justifiable work clothes (now that I am a sahm) I find I buy a lot of crappy clothes/workout gear at Target, rationalizing that it's cheap...but in reality I SHOULD have purchased one or two pieces of quality and ended it.

For the people who spend too much for the kids clothes: is it because you want others to thin you're a good mom? Not trying to be snarky, just truly wondering.

What? I don't spend $$ on my kid's clothes (grandparents do that quite nicely) but that didn't even occur to me. I just figured they saw a cute outfit and couldn't resist it.

Does everything you do for your kids for other people's benefit? Seems like an odd thought to me!

No, my ds wears target, my dd wears nice stuff. I don't care who sees it. I never had cutsie clothes growing up, and it really annoyed me. Funny enough, my dd does not care, but she lets me dress her up. I do make sure that EVERYTHING I buy for her is on sale, at least 50% off, but it is still pricey. I am amazed at some mothers who do not care about the clothes issue with their daughters. Sometimes, I wish I could be more like them.

I won't say I spend too much, but I do enjoy it. And that's the only reason. It's fun. It would never cross my mind what others think, although I do generally hope he's matching most of the time (now dressing himself).

But it's so good for my health!

ok ms.mercury!

Depends on what kind of fish. I love salmon best, which are low in mercury. DH loves tuna so he'll be the one with the heavy metal poisoning.

I have ADD, so I justify the sushi expense because the omega-3s are great for my brain and recommended for ADDers. One must always look for a silver lining!

I just spent $30 on my eyebrows. Ridiculous, but I feel a lot more presentable now.
