| P.S. I meant if you want an appointment right away. |

Having been with CMG since our daughter was born (she is now 3.5, and we also have a son who is 18 months old), I remember feeling pretty much not very positive about the practice when our daughter was a few months old. I thought it was too big, that I couldn't see the same doctor on consecutive occassions when my child was ill and I had to take her in for a follow-up visit. Having said all of that, now that we are "old" patients, I ALMOST ALWAYS get to see Dr. Shearin (who is our ped) even for sick visits. This is because I've learnt to ask to see the doctor that I would like to see ... in other words, I call and ask if Dr. Shearin is available to see my children and for the most part, we have been able to get an appt to see him. I think the entire experience when your child is a newborn is overwhelming in many ways, and a big practice like CMG is hard to get to grips with. My advice would be to stick with it - we have been VERY happy there, and you learn quickly which doctors/nurse practitioners you like and those you don't. There are certain nurse practitioners at CMG whose advice I totally wouldn't trust and so, I just ask to speak to someone other than Nurse X; similarly there are certain doctors that I don't like -- actually only one thus far - Dr. Jones -- and so if he is the first doctor they suggest, I ask if someone else is available. The front desk staff are very accommodating, particularly as they get to know you - as with anything, it works best for they get to know you!
On the subject of which doctor, I think it's personal preference at the end of the day. We LOVE Dr. Shearin - he is definitely more "old school" but that said it's what works for us - he has a great rapport with our kids, is a good doctor, sensible and practical, not overbearing or prescriptive and pretty relaxed about things - that's what works for us! AND he always makes time to see us if he knows that our children are sick ... |
| We've been going there for a 6 weeks since the birth of our daughter, and we're very pleased with the practice. There's such a great emphasis on breastfeeding and so far everyone has been very nice and knowledgeable. We have seen Roche, Finkelstein, Jones, Holly and Kathy. I am surprised by the comments re Dr. Jones - we really liked the appt with him and came away feeling like we'd learned a lot about our baby and what to expect. He had a lot of insight into baby behavior, showed us new ways to hold and interact with her and explained what he was doing the whole time. If you're not into what might be unnecessary background information (resulting in a longer visit), then I guess that might bother you. We found it all useful. |

My objection to Dr Jones is that in our experience, he can form very quick and fixed opinions based on relatively limited information. He also seems to be relatively aggressive in his approach to problems. We took our daughter to see him after she had had a string of 2 or 3 ear infections around age 2. He recommended that we have her adenoids removed. We did nothing, and she hasn't had an ear infection for years.
That said, while he's not my first choice within the practice, I would not hesitate to take my children to see him if we could not get another appointment. |
| PP here - I also wanted to mention that when we had a "new parent freak out" and rushed to the ped office, Dr. Finkelstein was great about not making us feel like idiots (baby was fine, we were freaked out about nothing)! |

We started with CMG when we moved here in April. We were pretty much assigned Dr Roche who is very nice, but we finally reached the point where we felt we weren't receiving adequate care (she said she wasn't very good at reading X-rays when looking at an Xray that was sent to her and also administered a flu vaccine to my 9 month old and she is allergic to eggs. I was reading through the hand-out as the nurse administered it and said "but she's allergic to eggs!" at which point Dr Roche came in, made an emergency call to the allergist, then had to wait an hour to monitor my daughters breathing. Dr. Roche's response was "I usually write this kind of thing down in the front of the file."). All of this to say, I called to officially just change drs. in the practice, I had also heard good things about Dr. Finklestein, but my 2 calls were routed through the office manager's assistant, to Dr. Jones (head of the practice) who never returned my phone calls. I was in the office today to pick up the 2nd dose of the flu vaccine which has to be administered at the allergists', when I asked why I had to pay $50.00 the woman at the desk went and got Dr. Jones (who was in a meeting I guess) and he was SO RUDE. Without any warning he raised his voice and said "If you don't want to pay this price, just leave, I'm not giving you this for less than $50.00!" I am not a confrontational, loud person and he struck me as incredibly rude. I was really just trying to find out why we had to pay $50.00. We are leaving the practice.

| We have been there for the past 3 years. I had a very negative experience with Kadowitz, and from what I hear from the other Moms in my daughter's preschool playgroup, I am not alone. My son was born with a birth defect, which was unexpected and very traumatizing, and she was very unsupportive and negative when I came in one week after he was born. However, Drs. Shearin, Finkelstein, Pearl and Snow were all caring, warm and very competent. I would highly recommend any of these doctors! |
| I love Dr. Shearin -- he obviously spends some time looking through my son's charts before he comes in and is prepared. He has a great bedside manner and is very reassuring. I also have had good experiences with Dr. Finikelstein. I will never schedule with Dr. Kadowicz again -- I find her to be extremely condescending. |
| Ditto the negative experience with Dr. Kadowitz. She was very brusque and condescending, and made us feel like idiots when addressing our questions. After two bad appointments with her with our newborn, we cancelled our follow ups that we had scheduled and are trying out Dr. Snow and Dr. Pearl next two times. |

Count us in the number that love Dr. Jones. We moved to this area a year ago and had previously used a group of 7 peds. Of the 8 pediatricians we've seen since our kids were born, Dr. Jones has been the most thorough and least rushed at apppointments and is our favorite pediatrician yet. He is great at explaining what to expect at each phase of a child's development.

| we've been going there for almost 2 years now and have seen all docs except Jones. We usually see dr. Pearl, who I LOVE. I would also recommend Finkelstein, Snow, and Shearin. |
| Dr. Shearin is awesome. He is knowledgeable and supportive. |
| Saw Dr. Pearl way back when she was at Foxhall Pediatric. We liked her a lot and were sorry to see her go. |
I've also had Dr. Jones give me his cell number in case the front desk wouldn't/couldn't put us in the schedule to see him. |

I bring my kids to CMG and love Dr. Pearl, Dr. Sherin and Kathy McCue. I'm pleased with Dr. Jones, Finkelstein and Snow ...and Dr. Roach and Dr. Kadowitz are adequate IMO but not touchy feely with the kids.
Cap Med is definitely accessible, competent, convenient and the physicians are well trained. I think the front desk staff is beyond rude, and the nursing aids are horrible. I asked one of them to leave the room once when she was so annoyed that my 2yo was screaming with anxiety before getting his shot. She was rolling her eyes and getting very testy with him. My response was, "clearly you are either having a bad day or insensitive to your pediatric patient here, please leave the room and get another nurse who has the skills and patience to work with us".. I stay there b/c of the doctors but have been tempted to leave at times b/c their support staff is so poor, and I also cant stand getting charged for using the on call service and getting school papers signed.. but the kids are getting good medical care IMO. |
