| I too am tired of the treadmill. There were two races yesterday -- st. Patricks Day and Reston 10 miler. I looked at the results, and the turnout for the races was impressive given the weather. |
CB is my longest race yet, and the fear of being underprepared gets me through the long runs on the treadmill. That and an awesome Spotify playlist plus supportive running friends who I commit to ahead of time (I tell them I'll be running x distance today and then report to them afterwards). Helps me not bail on the run even when I really want to. I know some people who binge watch shows or a movie on the iPad during a long run. |
| Terrible for us walkers, too! I walk 3-4 miles every morning with my neighbor and we haven't walked in the past 2.5 weeks. This morning was the first and I felt great when I got home!!! I'm ready for the warmer weather so at 5 am I can grab a t-shirt and shorts, leash up the dog and go!!! |
|
It hasn't been too bad. The cold isn't a problem, or the snow. It's the ice from people who don't clear their sidewalks, and for me the wind.
I'm still running 3-4x a week, but my miles are cut in half. It gets monotonous running the same small cleared stretch again and again! |
| I've run with Ice Trekkers and they are great for ice and trampled snow on sidewalks and trails like the ones in Rock Creek. The problem with the Ice Trekkers is that they are really annoying on bare pavement so if you are running on both or going from clear pavement to ice and back again it doesn't feel great. If you have a stretch that is ice or trampled snow go pick up Ice Trekkers or Spikys and get running. |

I don't have treadmill access and I'm not joining a gym just for the winter, so I'm just being creative and watching the the forecast carefully. I've timed my long runs successfully the past few weeks--I finished last Saturday just as the flakes began, and this Saturday I actually got to run in the sunshine (even though it was 18 degrees).
This morning, I did a speed workout on the only flat, ice-free stretch of road I could find in my neighborhood. It was shorter than desired so I went back and forth a lot. But hey, it's done. Hang in there, all! |
This is me too. It's been hours and hours on the bike trainer instead of the treadmill, and I'm so grateful not to be missing beautiful running days outside. |
| Glad I am not alone. Tired of treadmill, small indoor track at gym (12 laps=mile). I run outside whenever possible but I like running in the morning before work for my mid week runs and I won't do that while its icy. Today I squeezed in 5 miles at lunch since more winter weather is coming. I have a 10 miler on the 21st (hilly one too) and hope it's not miserable. I figure at worst it gives me an indication of how my half marathon on late April will go. |
| Same here!! My long runs for the upcoming RNR Half have gone to shit the last two weeks and at I'm hoping that I've put in enough quality miles up to now so that I can be happy with my race result. |
| I'm just hoping not to die with the RNR. I did the Army 10 miler and I've gotten in a couple of 10 milers relatively recently but not in the past few weeks. |
Last year I told myself this and slipped twice on black ice. First time I wasn't able to run for about 4 weeks due to sprained knee, 2nd time, I fell on butt and hurt back and wrist. I've learned my lesson! |
Eh, I love the treadmill. I don't ever watch TV except on the treadmill, so it's kind of a treat. During the week when I only run 6 miles, I watch the news, but on the weekends if I run 10 or more, I watch full-on trash. It's fun. |
| OP again. I got 8 miles in this morning but looking ahead it just just looks bad later this week. |
| But next week looks MUCH better! |

Time to get back out there people......weather is gonna be perfect this week.
Saturday was nice and today is gonna be purrrrrfect. ~N~ |
