Have you done the ice bucket challenge for ALS?

Hey, you'd be more awesome if you DIDN'T accept the challenge and actually donated the money.

And to anyone who says "oh, they're both donating AND dumping", I call BS.

Why? That's actually the truth with people I know.

Also, considering that the AlSA says the campaign has raised $11 million, you are the one who is full of BS.

No, I'm not. I'd guess the ones donating are not the ones parading around on facebook. They're the ones being challenged and not accepting. Or the ones who have been made aware of it by seeing the videos. True, I believe the famous people doing the dumps are also donating, but please don't tell me 14 year old mall-goer and 22 year old college jock and 44 year old welfare mom are donating too.

Are you truly this thick? Of course not EVERY person doing the bucket is donating. But that doesn't matter. The campaign has raised $11 million -- OVER what ALSA has raised in similar time periods previously. CLEARLY the campaign has been successful at getting people to donate. (Also, don't be silly -- just because the 14yo might not be donating doesn't mean his/her parents aren't.) My gosh, the lengths people will go to to put down something good.
I know many people -- myself included -- who have done the challenge AND donated. And, get ready to be shocked, we're not famous!!!

I just wish people wouldn't get their pets involved, it just seems cruel to dump freezing water on a pet who doesn't understand.

Same idiots who give their dogs beer and blow weed smoke in their faces.

I fall in the sad camp of those who only became aware of this whole ice bucket challenge as meme/phenom a few days ago.

BUT...I had a good friend whose father had ALS and it truly is a horrible disease. If people don't know, you lose control of your motor skills and ability to walk/breath/function on your own, yet many/most ALS victims remain mentally aware of what is happening to them, how others perceive them, etc.

It would be incredible if more could be done to help ALS sufferers, for sure.

You're right. Actually, let's call it what it is, it's bullying. I'm just waiting for the Facebook campaign to spring up to stop the needless shaming of people in this ALS campaign. I mean I just feel so sorry for all those Facebook contacts being shamed by their friends. IT's just a tragedy.

Ok, idiot. It's somehow just MAGIC that ALSA has gotten $10 million more than usual. No one is actually giving. You're right. Fairies have donated that money.
Signed,
The PP you don't believe, but was totally telling the truth, and who lost a family member to ALS. But, hey, keep being a total asshole.

You sound like a real peach.

Dumb question here- what happens when you do the ice bucket challenge? Does someone else donate for you or something?

ALS is a great cause but I feel like it's turned into a cool kids popularity thing. "You haven't been challenged? Ohhhh...."
Anonymous
That's part of why it is so successful.

Time says they raised 8.9 million just TODAY.

Was challenged. Didn't dump ice, just donated. I've been informed this makes me a big loser, but as a (completely unrelated) fundraiser, I'm practicing what I preach -- just effing donate!

I've learned a lot about ALS and the "Frate train" that started the challenge. I've sent along (shared or liked) everyone, seems like hundreds, that appeared in my news feed. I have cried, laughed, and been inspired by the American spirit. I'd say it's been a good thing.
