A few days ago, a mere few hours after AIPAC demanded that the FAA back down and let the planes fly, it did. The lobby demanded that the planes fly, unleashing its wholly owned politicians to denounce the FAA and the administration and, just like that, the ban was lifted. This was perhaps the greatest show of AIPAC power ever. It successfully overturned a U.S. government order.

Why you asked? $$$$$ AIPAC channels millions of dollars in campaign contributions to candidates for federal office through a network of political action committees established throughout the United States by members of AIPAC's national board of directors.

I believe American Jews need to stand up and demand that Israel stop inflicting this violence. They are complicit by not doing so or by trying to obfuscate or spin that Israel's violence is in any way justified.

Ethnic crimes against Arabs, both Christian and Muslim are horrible. The trade blockade against Gaza is horrible. People are becoming more and more racist and it won't ever stop. And now this.

Yeah but I hope you're not just trying to say that bad things happen on all sides. Israel is causing mass death and suffering of mainly women and children because they "don't feel safe". They seem to want to annihilate and humilate and cause misery and suffering and death. It is sickening, how can the world stand by? How can America be associated with their moral bankruptcy?

I listed a lot of bad things that Israel has caused and continues to do. So I'm not sure what you mean. We are in agreement as far as I can tell. I don't have a problem with Israel existing at all. But I have a big problem with a religion-based government that has extends different rights to people based on their religion. It's not OK for a Muslim country to do. It's not OK for a Jewish country to do. And the violence, of course, is indefensible.

Time for America to cut the cord with Israel, stop arming them and funding them. We are down in the dirty muck with them and we need to remember our values, condemn their reprehensible actions and walk away.

I know this was addressed with some credible evidence as to who's "buying whom."

But why is it so hard to understand that our political leaders are "bought" by influential people?

Even at the local level, there are local businesses with well known owners supporting candidates. As you move up the political ladder, your supporters have more and more money to move THEIR issues forward. tit for tat, I say

So why is it surprising that AIPAC has influence?

where he worked - http://www.nb.com/_layouts/www/index.aspx

Q&A with Kassen
http://www.jewishledger.com/2012/03/q-a-with-michael-kassen/

very telling - from the Q&A -

Q: It is common to focus on AIPAC’s lobbying efforts in Washington. But does lobbying work the other way around? Does Congress have any impact in determining AIPAC’s priorities or direction?
A: We work very closely with Congress and with the Administration. The belief of the founders of AIPAC – and this does not pertain only to AIPAC, but more broadly as well – is that the House of Representatives was always envisioned as the people’s chamber. The Senate was seen as more elite and aristocratic and populated by legislators not elected by popular vote; Congress, broadly, is supposed to be the voice of the people. The right to petition your government is enshrined in the Constitution. That’s a key building-block of American democracy that offers all kinds of groups a platform.
If you were to talk to the vast majority of Congress-members, they would tell you that AIPAC is a great educational resource that helps them be more knowledgeable about what’s going on in Israel and the Mid-East. We do that pretty well, but not perfectly, and we have to keep getting better at it.
In part because of what AIPAC and other pro-Israel organizations do, and because of the natural interest of many in Congress, there are lots of legislative initiatives that come from representatives. For example, someone could put forward an amendment to the foreign-aid bill that would cut off some or all of U.S. funding to Egypt unless they can better protect the natural-gas pipeline to Israel and Jordan. I don’t think AIPAC would support something like that if it were proposed. As an organization, we hardly ever get behind an initiative that doesn’t have broad bi-partisan support.
Congress sees us as good educational resource. It’s very common for members of Congress to ask our staff or our lay leaders – especially our board members who lobby in Washington several times a year – for information on a certain Israeli policy or action.

As usual, it's all about the Benjamins. Even when human suffering is involved.

American Jews are intelligent to realize that this conflict is between a designated terrorist organization and the state of Israel; it is very sad that Hamas is causing the death of so many of the Palestinian people but that's what terrorist do: kill people to spread terror.

That's the fact, without the spin.

Just look at the targeting: Hamas targets only civilian areas by firing blindly into entire cities. Israel warns Gazans by text, by phone, by leaflet, by warning drop to the roof. It advises Palestinian civilians to temporarily relocate south, but who forces civilians to stand in harms way? Hamas.

Hamas WANTS dead children to further their sick propaganda plot. Again, this is what designated terrorist organizations do.

This is the Warsaw ghetto after the liquidation.
Can Israel let us know what their ultimate plan is?

Hitler would be proud.

Not many people buy this nonsense any more in this country who aren't Jewish, on the AIPAC payroll, or brain-dead Tea Party types. At some point you do start to realize that all the killing in Gaza is consistent with the repression that's been taking place there by Israel for decades. The Jews of Israel occupy no moral high ground whatsoever.

This is total BS. Almost all those killed by Hamas have been soldiers. The vast majority of those killed by Israel have been civilians. If Hamas wants dead Palestinian children, why is Israel providing so many? Does Israel routinely help Hamas? Hamas wants fighter jets and tanks. Will Israel supply those too?

A barcode starting with 729 means a product was produced in Israel.

Go to the Campaign tab for information about product boycotts, divestiture around the globe and sanctions.

Thanks for this. I think that it is important that to support Israel in its time of need, and the barcode will me ensure that I am buying products from Israel.

Do the Israeli butchers put barcodes on all the human casualties they've caused as well?

You realize that's because the soldiers are being killed in combat, while the rockets that hamas is firing indiscriminately in to Israel are being shot down by Iron Dome. I seem to recall a highschool classmate of mine who was blown up on a beach in Tel Aviv by a terrorist bomb - while her fried went to get ice cream. Do you really, truly believe that hamas isn't targeting civilians? they're just not very good at it. you're obviously entitled to your opinions, and clearly this is your own personal soapbox, but think carefully about the ripple effect of the things that you are saying. I don't agree with a lot of what Israel does, and i think the settlements are an absolute disgrace, but try walking a mile in someone else's shoes before you cast stones.

I'm not sure of the point you are trying to make here. Israeli butchers and bakers put bar codes on their meat and bakery products. If you are looking for a cause of human suffering then one start would be to study the history of Hamas.
