Palin interview causes stir
CNN) — It’s the ultimate holiday photo-op for any governor: the yearly pardoning of a turkey to spare it from demise days before Thanksgiving.

But former Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is causing a stir for an interview she gave after pardoning an Alaska turkey Thursday, during which one bird was being slaughtered in the background.

Palin appeared unaware of what was going on directly behind her, though she did seem to take a glance at the unfortunate event at one particular point during the interview.

"It's nice to support a local business and just participate in something that isn't so heavy handed politics that invites criticism," Palin said during the interview. "Certainly will probably invite criticism for even doing this too, but at least it was fun."

"I am always in charge of the turkey so I am where I need to be today to prepare for that," she also said.

That is disgusting. I am a vegetarian now.

What is that machine supposed to do, anyways?

Those turkeys went in alive.

Um, yeah, the turkeys we eat have to be killed before they show up at the grocery store. That's how it works. How did you think meat and poultry ended up as food?

It's not clear to me what the machine was doing to the turkeys. Does anybody know? Does anybody know why the turkeys could not be killed first?

it looks like they were being suffocated.

I'm not eating meat anymore.

DCUMs, you now understand one of the primary reasons I'm a vegetarian.

Was she set up?

by the media? Look at the other thread that also posted this video: Is the media to blame for making Palin look like an idiot?

It think she was set up--the clip was filmed by the media--and did you notice the expression on the face of the guy with the turkeys? He was definitely not a McCain/Palin supporter, he appeared to be sneering at Palin.

Was that a sneer? I must have misinterpreted his actions. I thought he agreed with Palin when she was mentioning something about small businesses. Even if he supported her, however, he did make her look bad as he was killing off a T-giving day entree!

I believe the turkey was placed into a poultry killing cone in order to slaughter it.

The killing cone

A killing cone made of sheet metal is a useful accessory. Hang it on the side of an outbuilding or a tree. Insert the head through the hole at the bottom of the cone, pulling it to stretch out the neck and draw the wings and legs more tightly into the confinement of the cone. Use your sharpest knife to make a quick, decisive cut just below the “jaw.” It is important to note that you sever the jugular vein only, not the wind pipe (resulting in less stress for the bird). Allow the bird to bleed out thoroughly, guarding against a final spasm at the end that might flip it out of the cone.

Ha! Palin set up?? Please she is just an idiot!

If this were a third world country that would be nothing.
That said, it was dumb of her, unless she is trying to sent some bizarre message.

The cone is to cut the bird's throat... I am so not eating turkey next week...

And I hate CNN showed that video without a fair warning.
