I can't stand Meri. I seriously want to punch her in the face. She cries and whines constantly. I think she is incredibly selfish. Why does she need such a big house?? Janelle is my favorite. She seems like shes checked out of the marriage. |
DH caught me watching it and we had a tiny discussion about the show. I told him I thought Meri was one of the few people I've seen that I would actually call ugly. He didn't think so and thought Janelle was less attractive. Now I don't know if Meri's ugly or if it's her terrible personality that makes her seem ugly. |
Meri has an ugly mouth and chin. She also has an ugly personality. |
I don't seen an issue with it. Gays, poly's..I don't see a difference. I support both.
I'm not gay and I'm not poly, so I don't really care THAT much, but to each their own. |
I watched last week... it was Christmas time and Kody devised a contest to see which of his wives could make his mom's famous caramels.
Anyway, what was with the many Salvation Army emblazoned boxes in every scene? Oddly, the SA was pixelated out, as most bam brands are. Anyone else see the boxes? I recall SA boxes in Robyn's kitchen, in Mari's house. Are they SA recipients? The boxes remind me of what a food pantry client might receive...canned goods and cereals, etc.all packed in big boxes. |
what is Robyn's big secret? |
She is really a man and in love with meri |
I think it has to do with giving up her virginity. Maybe she had an abortion? I DVRed it but have yet to watch it. |
YES - I clearly saw the *new* (not -recirculated) Salvation Army boxes and wondered if they were "clients" (S/A calls the poor it services "clients"). Most S/A clients are on welfare. Most 2d/3rd/4th wives, et al., are on welfare as "single nonworking mom with children". That's why it was so important for Robyn to get a S.S. card (notice that) - so she could apply for welfare. All the wives after the first in compounds or other fundamental outpost are on welfare. |
Here it says that Verlan LeBaron's children and wives all wore Salvation Army clothes. This is a good book, BTW - I read it a few years ago. She gives a good account of what life as a plural wife is really like. http://www.lemondrop.com/2010/10/19/escape-from-polygamy-a-former-sister-wife-shares-why-she-left/ |
So for those who watched tonight. Robyn was "forcibly" made to give up her virginity. Was that rape? Rape by a polygamist? She got pregnant and had a boy. Was she forced into marriage. I thought she was a Jessop. Whom did she marry? Where is the boy? Generally, if a woman manages to escape the compound she has to leave the children behind - they always belong to the many. |
2:21 back. Here's a recap of the suet that Kody/Cody (whatever) brought (I suspect he was egged on by the producers) - a fact never mentioned in the series. Wiki says a hearing was scheduled in Jan. 2013 in federal court. I don't know the outcome.
* * * * * On July 13, 2011, the Browns filed a complaint in United States District Court to challenge to Utah's criminal polygamy law[46] and released the following statement: "There are tens of thousands of plural families in Utah and other states. We are one of those families. We only wish to live our private lives according to our beliefs. While we understand that this may be a long struggle in court, it has already been a long struggle for my family and other plural families to end the stereotypes and unfair treatment given consensual polygamy. We are indebted to Professor Turley and his team for their work and dedication. Together we hope to secure equal treatment with other families in the United States."[47] On June 1, 2012, the criminal case against the Browns was dropped.[48] However the suit filed by the Browns remains active after a federal judge refused to dismiss it, saying "strategic attempt to use the mootness doctrine to evade review in this case draws into question the sincerity of [the Utah County Attorney's] contention that prosecution of plaintiffs for violating this statute is unlikely to recur".[49] The hearing on the case occurred in January 2013 |
I think she already had a SS card. It was important for her to get her name changed to Cody's last name. Also, if they're all on welfare as "single nonworking mom with children", how did they qualify for those huge-ass houses? This doesn't make sense. |
She married him. He's the father of her oldest child. |
Yes, but WHO was the father. I have read that it was a Jessop (fundamental compound leader). And do we ever SEE her son. I've watched the show and I don't recall her ever showing off a large boy/adolescent. |
