For anything contemplating Madlax lacrosse

VLC is probably the best option. VLC had a huge turnout this past weekend, but they have another set next weekend because many kids couldn't make it.

If your child isn't a top player, you could look at Performance, Next Level, Cavalier and a few others.

VLC had a ton of kids at their youth tryouts. Talent was extremely impressive.

There are still good clubs out there having tryouts. If you haven't read this article before and are thinking about Madlax, please read it.

My son doesn't play for madlax or vlc, but I am so tired of seeing some vindictive parent post this link. Please just give it a rest. Btw, take a look back in the forum exactly a year ago when VLC had its 2014 tryouts, the same stuff was posted, but yet your teams still aren't very competitive. Tryouts mean nothing.

I'm not the 9:46 poster, and our son plays for Blackwolf. I don't think there's anything wrong with posting that link. People should know who they are getting in bed with by joining that club. We would never allow our son to play for them after we saw that email exchange.

Your other statement is incorrect, btw. Madlax has probably the largest pool of kids in the youth age, but their HS teams trail. Both Blackwolf and VLC have had superior HS teams over Madlax - another reason why we don't play for Madlax.

Based on how you wrote those 2 final sentences, it's pretty obvious you are a Madlax family.

No, I just find it obnoxious that VLC parents year after year boast about how great their tryouts were, how many madlax kids were there, and how strong the teams are going to be, but yet it never translates to the field. I don't see other clubs regularly posting about how many kids were at their tryouts. Win a AA tournament, then you can boast.

I also find it silly that you can condemn the madlax owner, which I am personally not a fan of, while supporting a coach that exhibits equally as bad behavior, if not worse. Just read through the forums about his antics; cussing, screaming, and degrading kids, and generally acting like a giant man-baby, so I'm sorry but I can't give credence to anything you say.

BW 2015 parent here and I disagree with some of what you wrote. I've seen this thread several times and haven't seen anything from a VLC parent that is boasting or disrespectful. The only bad behavior I've seen is parents from other clubs making snide comments about them. I think everyone should be supportive of all the kids and only worry about whether your own club is meeting your expectations.

You say that their club is never strong on the field and that is not true. We have friends whose kids were on their 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 teams and all of those teams were/are excellent. Every club has stronger teams in some grades and weaker ones in others. I think Madlax has the most kids at the youth level, but Blackwolf is starting youth teams so that will eat into their marketshare. After seeing our son go through the process, the goal is not to win an "AA" tournament. It's to get better and recruited if that's what you want.

I also haven't see any VLC coach exhibit bad behavior on the sidelines. I have seen the Madlax owner act like a lunatic many times.

Sweetlax offers free recruitment services If you make the team and it works! On my sons team Kevin Martin personally takes the time out with each parent and child so he may find the school that best fits the parents and child. Top notch coaching and a great atmosphere. This is an old thread but the bottom line here is the club is there to serve the needs of the kids not the other way around. That prob why madlax numbers are dropping.

I missed this thread! any new stories of parents or coaches acting out?

As a referee (worked over 50+ games last spring), I notice the "sticker" kids (those with helmet stickers from these clubs) are just better players than the ones that don't play travel. IMHO, the kids who play indoor box pass, cut and move more effectively than the ones who play outdoor alone. In fact, I would encourage 8th-9th grade kids to play travel instead of JV HS. It's really hard to legislate a JV game with only 2 referees on the field. I run really hard, but I know some of my peers don't in a JV game saving it for Varsity contest that follows. Football players often play JV lacrosse and love that big hit from 5+ yards away which produces concussions and keeps kids from playing this great game.

From my perspective, does the coach make your kid a better player and team mate. My son was the worst attack man on a mad lax roster, but he became a much better player during practices even though he rarely the field during games.

As for the yelling coaches, they really don't add any value. The more a coach yells and screams at his players or officials, it's less about the kids and more about them and their egos.

BTW... I don't mind interested parents. I rarely hear the yelling as I'm too busy trying to get in the right position to make/not make the call.

One thing I will say, travel coaches let kids get away without mouthguards or wearing them as fishing lures and not properly in the mouth. Even if it doesn't look cool, please get your kid to wear it. It really does make a difference and in youth lax it's a 1 min penalty if we see them without it in properly.

This is an insane conversation, about people that know very little about the game, clearly parents. VLC, Blackwolf and Madlax produce high caliber player D1-D3 level on a consistent basis. At the high school level Madlax teams 2019, 2018, and 2017, have repeatably proven to be the best in the area based on success at elite tournaments and college placement those three classes alone have over 30 D1 placements, and have some of the best players in the USA. There is a lot more to Madlax than Cabell Maddux. Mistakes were made years ago and without a doubt Maddux is an intense, tempered fueled guy on the sideline, but he is very far away from how is being painted. All of these businesses, regardless of how it is presented is about building a successful business, so in return people should be look at results, not antidotes from the past. And to the person who kids plays for Sweetlax, they may be the biggest money grabber of all, so get off your pedestal.

madlax may or may not have fixed their "Cabul" problem, but they still sell you a package that doesn't exist, charge your credit card long after you have withdrawn from the team and have little care or concern for the players. We've been associated with BLC, Madlax, Next Level and DC Express/performance over the past 7 years with two boys playing lax. Madlax was the worst experience by far. We spent a season where the team never had a practice, had a different coach even week during the season, coaches didn't know the kids names or positions during tournaments. Absolutely horrific! When we let the business manager for Madlax know that we were not happy and would not continue after the fall season he immediately charged my credit card for the winter season and refused to refund me. I have spoken to many other families after the fact that have had the same experience. Cabul Madox is paying for his kids private school and a country club with money he has conned from unsuspecting parents.

Just read this when you make your decision for your child. Hopefully your choice will not crush the love of the game your child may still have.
