Hey everyone! This is LJ.

Pumpkin - I always thought twins would be pretty awesome but I have to say that not having twins is probably less stressful! Glad to hear everything is going well with Wisdom. It seems like finding a practice you like is so important to having a good pregnancy. I was scared off from them from the nutrition/perfect health stuff but it sounds like all that might be overblown.

Wavy - thanks for the tips on saving money. Something I am sure we will all be thinking about!

Peanut - I agree about trying to steer clear of stressful things online (and off!) While I was in the waiting room waiting for my NT, I was reading an article about miscarriages in a baby magazine. Ughhh!

I am officially 13 weeks today! I had my NT and genetic counseling yesterday. The baby has a nasal bone and not at all too much fluid behind its neck! Good heartbeat and normal brain development, all that jazz. I always breathe such a sigh of relief at these appointments. Now that I have made it to the 13 week point, I feel much better about the chances of everything going well from here. Here's hoping!

I did have some worsening morning sickness this week, combined with terrible sleeping problems. I also woke up with a leg cramp this morning at 5 am, which was terrible.

Got my first clear picture of the babe though, I could see its little nose and lips!! Makes the symptoms a little bit easier to handle, I suppose.

Is anyone else planning on staying home for a while? I am a teacher and really don't want to teach nine months pregnant in September and then take a long maternity leave. I am thinking about staying home until the fall of 2014.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hey LJ, great to hear your wonderful news. Pumpkin here. I specifically chatted with the midwife I saw about their diet. She said that it is there as a guideline, and if you got close to the diet 80 percent of the time you're doing better than most. Anyway, I felt absolutely comfortable afterwards. The midwife I met with was warm and helpful and not bossy at all. So I was probably worried for nothing.

How great to hear all of your tests went well! I'm sure that is a relief.

I took 6 months maternity leave last time, worked part time starting at 4 months but with lots of flexibility. I hope to do the same this year, though my leave will happen at a busier time of the year for my work, so it will depend partly on how easy this is to schedule. I work from home, and I insist on at least a minimum amount of flexibility through the first year, so I often have a day off here and there anyway.

I wouldn't want to go back, as a teacher, for just a short period of time then take a maternity leave. It seems like it would be easier all around, if you can afford it, to take the whole semester off if you can? It will be nice, anyway, if you can take that time! The first year is so much fun (and so much work).

Hi guys, it's the interloper again. I had my first appointment today and everything looked great! I'm measuring exactly on schedule (6w4d) and got to see the heartbeat. I was SO nervous before hand, so I feel like the ulcer I was giving myself has at least slowed down for now. I'm still nervous since last fall when I had my MC, I saw the heartbeat then, too, but last time around, I was already measuring behind, so I'm trying to take that as good news, and that hopefully the odds are just in my favor anyway! Anyhow, I just wanted to share the update and say that I hope everyone is doing well!!

Awesome for a good ultrasound, Interloper!

Yay, Interloper! So glad to hear your great news. Thanks for sharing. :^) Also glad to hear your good news, LJ--so great to get to 13 weeks and things looking good.

Nothing much to report here, just waiting for the next midwife appointment next week. We also have our first trimester screen and M21 next week, so that will hopefully bring good news. I tried to taper my Zofran a wee bit, which resulted in getting sick again, so back on the regular dosage I go. Ah well. I'm overall feeling much better, more energetic and less draggy at 11 weeks and change.

I hope all are well!

Starting on Tuesday I had some bad cramping - not the normal period type cramps I got early on, more like a runner cramp on my left side, under my rib cage, maybe 6" from my belly button (I'm chubby so it's in that general area!).
I called the nurse at GW and she said unless I wanted to come in to see if I had a UTI, there's nothing they could do since I didn't have any other issues (no bleeding, no fever, no vomit).
Anyone have this ever? It's not constant, so yesterday I took the day off (as much as I bitch about my job, I have an amazing boss who has had two miscarriages herself and truly worries about me, it's a huge blessing - today she was like "I JUST WANT YOU TO BE THROUGH THIS TRIMESTER!"). I basically laid around all day save for a couple of dog walks. When I sit at my desk, I don't feel anything. I am trying to move slowly and deliberately which seems to help.
If I were to scale it from 1-10, I'd give it a 5/6. It's like a stab/cramp but it doesn't make me want to curl up and I haven't taken tylonol (because I want to feel what's going on).

anyone?

I'm incredibly worried.....NT scan isn't until this coming Wednesday. SUCH a long wait. I hate this.

Jin -

It's Sepi. I've been having some on and off cramps, and sometimes they are so painful! Despite my fears, so far baby has been fine. If you can get an U/S, it may help ease your fears. If there's no blood, that's really good. I wish there were more we could do at this point. I've never taken anything, just tried to sit back until it subsides.

I'll be thinking of you! Best of luck.

They won't bring me in for an ultrasound, which sucks but I understand - if everyone with any sort of cramp or pain came in for an ultrasound they wouldn't have time for anything else!
I called the GW nurse line, they called back, took down all my symptoms...and the nurse spoke with a doc then called back. If the doc wasn't worried enough to bring me in, I have to have hope.
but still, I get so worried. I know you do, too. I just want this part to be over so badly.

Then, my boobs hurt and I cry over a commercial and I think "oh yeah, pregnant". But still, these past couple of days have been pretty nervewracking. Dr Google says round ligament pain, but that is usually right side and much later than I am (I'll be 11W tomorrow)

jindc, I'm so sorry to hear about the cramping. Talk about not at all what you want.

I've had intense pain at times when I cough without tensing my pelvic muscles, if that makes any sense. Not the same as what you're feeling, but I wonder if maybe things are moving around and making room and that's what's going on? I agree with Sepi that no bleeding is an excellent sign, as is the fact that it doesn't feel like menstrual cramps.

I wish I could offer more than just support. The first trimester blows in so many respects and yes, it drags on forever. Take good care.

Hi there. Pumpkin here. I got this constantly through my first pregnancy and have it again, in fact it is happening right now. With me, it's usually on my right side. I know how freaky it is - trust me! I thought for sure it was a gall bladder attack. I never really figured out "for sure" what it is, but in my case, I think it is indigestion. I have had acid reflux on and off my entire life and what sometimes happens with acid reflux is that the acidic content from your stomach washes up your esophagus and in some cases can actually spill out into your chest and abdominal cavity. (Please don't ask me for a more technical explanation than this! I'm just trying to explain what I was told by a doctor). In my case, I rarely have typical "heartburn" or pain that would seem like indigestion / reflux, but I still get those hard stabby pains in my side, in the rib cage area, and have been told that it really is classic reflux symptom even if you don't have other signs of reflux. Do you notice it happening more after you eat? (Not that this would have to be the case - my WORST trigger? drinking water!).

But, it could also be round ligament pain. Have you googled that? It could also be actually a cramp, exactly like you get while running, which means oxygen or hydration or whatever is not getting to the area.

Pregnancy causes SO many weird aches and pains - this won't be the last freakout you have but I am really confident that this is totally normal (well, as confident as I can be as a non-doctor diagnosing someone over the internet based on a description of a cramp). You have to keep this in mind: your uterus is growing and it pushing EVERYTHING out of its way. Your stomach, bladder, rectum, kidneys, all of your internal organs are being shoved around against one another and against your rib cage (ow!) and so on. It is super scary, all the aches and pains are, but the vast, vast majority of them are going to be totally normal.

And if that hasn't helped you feel better, look at all of these women talking about the same thing:

http://community.babycenter.com/post/a24914571/it_feels_like_a_runners_cramp...anyone_else

I know you know better than to take my reassurance as gospel, but I've been through that before and I can just tell you it's common. If your gut tells you something is "wrong" though, you're right to keep an eye on it, but my advice for right now is actually do some things to keep your mind off of it.

Pumpkin here, again. also wanted to ask: and sorry for this but I'm just gonna go there.

When is the last time you took a good poop?

Because pains like that are often a factor of constipation / hard stool.

Sorry to go there....

HI Ladies! I haven't updated in a while.

jindc - I hope your worries go away soon enough. You're almost through the first trimester! I did also have some stabbing pains, which I didn't ask the doctor about because they went away after a few seconds and never came back. I'm hoping it's just my body readjusting itself to the little peanut.

LJ and Interloper - so great to hear that you both had good doctor's visits!

I have my NT scan on Monday (only three days away!). Some of my symptoms came back this last weekend like fatigue after work (the kind that makes you wanna collapse in your bed), Hunger pangs in the middle of the night, and sore boobs. I was also introduced to a new symptom....heartburn after EVERY meal. After a couple of days of that, I looked up how to alleviate it (eat slowly, don't drink too much while you're actually eating, etc.) and it seems to work.

Today, my only symptom is sore boobs and not much else.

Quick question for you ladies....since I get a free breast pump thorugh insurance, when do you think I should order it? My friend who's only a month ahead of me already ordered hers. Do you think it's too soon? I think she was worried that the pumps would be backordered.

Thanks, guys - first, yeah, I #2 regularly (though, my eating hasn't been great so that affects it...more snacking, fewer meals as I try to deal with the cramp).
And I don't nothing anything related to food, but i AM trying to chew everything better and take tums just in case it's that. last night we had soup (actually, borscht because I saw it on the Food Network and though it looked good...it was ok but in retrospect, eating something that red was probably not the smartest idea!).
The only thing that changed prior to the cramp was that I FINALLY took a long walk after work. So, exercise. And now I'm worried because I have my trainer scheduled for Saturday AM for the first time since starting IVF and I'm worried that's a bad idea...

Hi Peanut! Pumpkin again. I am so sick that I took the afternoon off and am now basically in bed "treating" DCUM to my constant presence. I had a pump in style advanced, hands free http://www.medelabreastfeedingus.com/products/573/pump-in-style-advanced and I have to say, the motor slowed down considerably by the time DS was 10 months or so, so I didn't pump CONSTANTLY or anything. I thought my supply was dwindling but it turns out it was the pump. But many people swear by them, though, maybe I just got a dud. Another issue is that they really do kind of indicate that they're for ONE child. You can supposedly reuse them for baby 2, but most moms seem to think that the pump does wear down. I think it's obscene to spend that kind of money on a hunk of plastic that is essentially going to be disposable after one baby!

Since insurance will cover it, I'm going to get a new breast pump. This time I'm interested in this model, but I don't know if it's one of the ones my insurance will cover. (It's so nice that insurance covers this now - it didn't with my first and they are EXPENSIVE!)

As a first time mom, people advised me NOT to pump too soon unless you had a definite supply issue, which was advise I agree with (you can cause an oversupply issue by doing this, which sounds great but actually is really hard on your baby and causes gas and fussiness and pain) but I got mastitis around 5 weeks and let me tell you I was so-so-so glad i had a pump to drain that breast after DS was "done" but my breasts were still not empty!
