Two sandwiches at 12 Bones in Asheville, NC:

Fried green tomato sandwich
Smoked turkey with brie

Normally I would never eat either of these, but they came highly recommended when we were visiting Asheville, and turns out they are the best sandwiches I've ever eaten in my life.

Oh, fried green tomato sandwiches. I had forgotten. (The one at the Homestead has goat cheese. Sigh.)

OK, also love chicken, bacon, avocado, and white cheddar on toasted whole wheat with mayo.

Man, it's been YEARS since I've had one of these (since moving to Bethesda), may have to go this weekend. I think I still have them on speed dial.

Every time we look at houses in North Arlington, I think, "I'd have to drive home past the Italian Store." And then I try to decide if that would be a good or bad thing. I have no freakin' idea. I'd be fat, but really, really happy.

But if you lived in N. Arlington, you would quickly realize how annoying it is to actually go to the Italian Store because it is always so frickin' crowded. You can order ahead, but they don't always answer the phone. Good sandwiches though.

During the week the Italian Store has stacks of pre-made Milanos and Capris. You can pick them up, pay and get out in a few minutes. Not to highjack the thread, but if you make a pilgrimage to the Italian Store, pick up the Berger cookies (vanilla with a thick glob of the best chocolate frosting). They're from Baltimore and delish!

In college there was a place that regularly ran coupons in the campus paper--for $3.09 you got a sandwich, good thick potato chips, a small cup of pasta or potato salad, and a fountain drink. The sandwich I always got was a Susie Sorority--turkey, claussen dill pickles, sprouts, havarti, mayo, tomato on whole wheat toast. So good. I wonder how much they cost now.

Anyone remember Koch's Deli in West Philly? The Italian Hoagie, the Reuben, the Brisket on Rye. Heaven.

I really love reubens, plus pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, but only if the meat is of really good quality. With swiss cheese and some spicy mustard.

Also... some days I really want a caprese sandwich. Otherwise, nothing will satisfy like a lobster roll. Occasionally I find myself craving a meatball sub or a chicken parmesan melt from Cosi. And sometimes nothing will satisfy like a thick, gooey grilled-cheese sandwich (or panini) or an adult PB&J.

I am OBSESSED with eating avocado right now!

Sounds great! I love rye bread, but it is hard to find a really good rye bread in US.
Ha-ha, I am making guacamole every day for my daughter. She is obsessed with avocado too.
