I think the argument is about showering and bunking together rather than being in foxholes together. What bothers me is that it is phrased in terms of the discomfort of the other soldiers. This is the same argument used in the 1940's against racial integration of the military. Santorum says it's different because homosexuality is not innate like race. Even if you grant that, the response does not address the placing of one person's comfort over another person's right to equal treatment. BTW, in prisons, when one prisoner rapes another, I think the rapist is not usually gay, just horny and powerful. That combination is also present in the army, and if such rapes do not occur, it is highly unlikely that any straight soldier need worry about his gay comrades. |

I think it's gross that people who will not support the troops that maintain our freedom and way of life are treated so abysmally. If you can't be supportive, then maybe you don't deserve the freedoms that he endangered his life to provide you. |
