Beauvoir Head has resigned with over a year's advance notice

Kudos to this head for allowing the school a nice length of time to find a replacement. I'm sure she will be missed but this allows her a full year to close up loose ends and leave her successor a strong foundation. I think it's classy.

And that is why they make these announcements the day before the long weekend. Because some parents do feel entitled to go stomping in, and frankly the school doesn't want to deal with that. They'd rather put their energy to dealing with children and their learning (imagine that!).

By announcing right before the long weekend, they give the crazy parents a chance to vent on DCUM or to their hopefully less crazy spouses and calm down before they return.

I think it's a great move, and I'm sure it's part of a pattern.

Exactly, it's similar to receiving report cards on a Friday. Time to digest the news....

Maybe she wanted a peaceful weekend of privacy before the full court press of well wishers. Just like with the mailing of the ERB's . This town rarely takes a breath, but functions better when forced to do so.

The school has a lot of class and not many do anymore, sadly.

All is Fair in anything said.
Head of School is a high profile position...parents and others have the right to hear what's happening ...
Protecting someone from a good--or bad--'retirement' doesn't cut it at the rates parents pay to send their children to school.
No idea what happened, but people have the right to know, if something DID happen.

Huh? The administration at expensive schools are not allowed to retire?

This one has been there for 21 years, lead the school through a complete modernization and is now giving the school almost 18 mos notice to find her replacement. What more do people want?

The only thing that happened is that the Sun rose yesterday morning; the stars shone last night; and for nearly two decades past and for well into the future, Paula C. will be remembered as an incredible person of consistent character, tact, charm, leadership, and decisiveness.

Maybe Beauvoir will fix its terrible math now/in 18 months.

Maybe Jeff will stop deleting my posts. Can't we say anything except regret that she is leaving?! These boards allow racist comments, and nasty comments about many other schools that this is grossly unjust.

You can say anything that you want to say once you have identified yourself in a verifiable manner. I cannot believe that you are repeatedly complaining that I am not allowing you to anonymously say nasty things.

When you really like something, its not hard to see why families might be sad.

Complaining about how a school delivers news, via email, as parents who spend lots of time and money at the school is also valid.

This stuff about people should have known, is not true for new families.

Paula we will miss you.

Absolute nonsense. Your hypocrisy and unfair playing field is glaring. Please don't humor us with your idiocy. If you wish to play ruler and censor ... do so with an even hand and stop your empty proclamations.

I got the letter today, Saturday. I am a former Beauvoir teacher and I just have to agree with a previous poster:
Let's see who will be brave enough to fill her shoes. Paula is an excellent, but excellent school administrator.

Am surprised actually she didn't retire two years ago when her husband retired as head at GDS. They are looking forward to much more time in Maine.

Parent at the school. Her husband retired 2 years ago and she stayed with the school beyond her planned retirement to see the school through the redesign of its play ground ( a multi-million dollar project) . People in their late 60's retire. Nothing exciting to it and it is not a surprise as many Beauvoir families knew that when her husband, who was the Head at GDS retired she would not be far behind. Beauvoir has had 4 Heads in its history, the average tenure of each was about 20 years. Paula will be 21 or 22.
