how much had you gained at 20 wks?

Anonymous
Hi, just curious. I am on track to gain 10 pounds by 20 wks, exactly the same as I did last pregnancy as it turns out (though unfortunately that pregnancy ended shortly after). How much did you gain by 20 wks and what was your total gain? Thanks!

8 lbs by then, 30 total (I was 2 weeks overdue, so would have been closer to 26 at 40 weeks).
8 lb 15 oz baby. Lost all but 5 lbs within 3 months, rest came off very slowly. I followed a low sugar diet, but otherwise ate at will. lots of whole grains, veggies, fruits, lean protein, nuts. And I exercised most days, moderately.

good luck with your pregnancy.

Thanks for the good wishes! I was worrying that I may be gaining too fast. I hope we all have healthy pregnancies this time around.

I gained a pretty steady one pound per week. I think in my third tri there were a few weeks that I gained more, but then in the last 4 weeks, I lost a bit (it was impossible to eat more than a few bites before feeling full). Gained 40 pounds total. More than I would've liked by about 10 pounds, but not so much that my OB was concerned (and I specifically asked about it).

I can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I was about 1 lb a week inthe 2nd tri and 5 lbs total the 1st, so I guess around 12 lbs. I gained 30 total and lost it all in a fee months from breastfeeding. Just eat healthy if you can and don't worry about it. Your body will do what it needs to do. Good luck.

I'm 19, and haven't checked lately but I am around 10lbs as well. I feel like I have gained 20 though! (2nd preg)

Wow, now I'm feeling pretty terrible about myself! At my 20 week appointment, I had gained around 5 lbs. Was told it was fine, but I could stand to gain a little bit more so I should focus on eating more throughout the day (I already felt like I was eating constantly). At my 24 week appointment, I had gained another 5 for a total of 10. Guess I'm way off the mark here...

Nothing to feel terrible about. OP here, I have had nearly zero morning sickness and am hungry all the time. It is no mystery how the 10 pounds came on.

I didn't gain anything with either of my 2 pregancies until 20 and 24 weeks respectively and the docs never mentioned it! I gained a total of 24 lbs and 19 lbs, but I started the pregnancies overweight.

I am up 3 lbs 12 weeks into pregnancy #3.

I had a similar situation. I lost about 5 lbs in the first trimester, but by 20 weeks had gained an overall 5 lbs (so 10 lbs gained since the end of the first trimester), with my midwives still telling me to eat more.

10 lbs sounds about right to me.

This is really just to make others in my situation feel better 20 weeks 1 day and I've gained 15 pounds. 2nd baby. I get super nauseous to the point of needing meds the whole pregnancy and the only thing that calms it (even with the meds) is eating. I excercise about 3-4 times a week and try to eat as healthy as possible but it is what it is. I gained a little over 40 with my first (most of it came off fairly quickly but the last 8 took FOREVER) and REALLY want to keep it 30 or under this time, but apparently that may not happen. Oh well. I wish I was one of those eating all the time who has only gained 5 pounds, but not so! For what it's worth I'm tall so it hides well and I can still fit into a lot of my regular clothes.....

Thank God for this post! I was starting to feel abnormal. I'm not overweight and exercise everyday but I feel like I gained a lot of between 16-20 weeks. I put on about 25 pounds with my first pregnancy but I started out heavier with this one due to fertility treatments. I'm not sure where I'm at now but I serious doubt that is is less than five pounds!

I'm also around 20 weeks & have gained 5 lbs. My last pregnancy I think at this point I had gained 5-10, and I gained 33 total (though about 7 lbs of that was from spectacular swelling/water weight in the last 2 weeks).
