Was told it was fine, but I could stand to gain a little bit more so I should focus on eating more throughout the day (I already felt like I was eating constantly). At my 24 week appointment, I had gained another 5 for a total of 10. Guess I'm way off the mark here...

At 20 weeks, I gained 5 lbs. Total weight gained during pregnancy was 17 lbs. My baby was 7lbs 4 ounces at full term.

OP, sorry I hijacked your post! I'm the poster who commented about gaining only 5 lbs by 20 weeks, up to about 9.5-10 lbs. now at 24 weeks.

Thanks for the feedback from other posters, I was getting really concerned that I had done something wrong and I'm not nourishing the baby enough, but I tell you, I eat all day long! Plenty of healthy foods, and ice cream too. I'm petite to begin with, but I wouldn't have called myself teeny tiny -- I'm 5'2" and around 120-125 pre-pregnancy and I used to work out 4-5 times per week. Glad to hear that others had this experience too, I was feeling so abnormal and bad about myself!

I get super nauseous to the point of needing meds the whole pregnancy and the only thing that calms it (even with the meds) is eating. I excercise about 3-4 times a week and try to eat as healthy as possible but it is what it is. I gained a little over 40 with my first (most of it came off fairly quickly but the last 8 took FOREVER) and REALLY want to keep it 30 or under this time, but apparently that may not happen. Oh well. I wish I was one of those eating all the time who has only gained 5 pounds, but not so! For what it's worth I'm tall so it hides well and I can still fit into a lot of my regular clothes.....

Thank God for this post! I was starting to feel abnormal. I'm not overweight and exercise everyday but I feel like I gained a lot of between 16-20 weeks. I put on about 25 pounds with my first pregnancy but I started out heavier with this one due to fertility treatments. I'm not sure where I'm at now but I serious doubt that is is less than five pounds!

Thank you both! At 20 weeks, I had gained around 14 pounds. This was upsetting to me because I was starting off overweight so being extremely careful about my eating, exercising, etc. One (but only one) of the OBs at my practice said in her experience women don't have much control over how much they gain... she's seen people eat all day and gain very little and people be very careful and gain 40-50 pounds. So, I'm trying not to worry about the numbers. My body will do what it needs to do.

At 20 weeks I had gained about 15 pounds, and my OB gave me a little bit of a hard time about it, mostly because I gained too much weight with my first pregnancy. Well, I happen to be one of those people who just gains more in the first trimester because I am constantly nauseated 24/7 and the only thing that makes me feel better is nibbling on carbs almost all day long. By the end of my pregnancy, however, I had gained a total of 29 pounds. In the very end many people, myself included, even lose a little bit of weight or don't gain anything at all. I gained no weight at all in the last month of pregnancy. It's kind of hard to gain any weight since you completely lose your appetite and can start feeling nauseated again.

This makes me feel a lot better, I've been so discouraged as I hear how many people have only gained 5 or 10 pounds at this point. I am only 5 feet tall (first pregnancy) and have craved mostly fruits and vegetables--not a lot of breads, or ice cream, or many of the other things I hear about, yet I have still gained about 15 pounds. With my height there is no hiding it either, so I look very obviously pregnant at this point. It's good to know though that every body is different and I am not entirely abnormal for having gained more than ten. My doctors didn't even mention it, so there doesn't seem to be a concern--it's just not fun gaining more than you hoped you would mid-way through.

4 lbs upto 14th week and then only 4 lbs in the last 7 weeks so total 8 lbs. OB says its fine.

That's not bad at all. I'm confused.

At 20 weeks I had gained four pounds.....but that was partly due to having a major surgery at 17 weeks which caused me to go back down to my prepregnancy weight. At 23 weeks, I've gained a total of 8 pounds, so it does seem to eventually start to catch up even if you start slowly.

I'm at 18 weeks and I've only gained about 4 pounds. I think I'm not eating enough though. I have to start planning out my meals if I'm going to stay on track. I have zero cravings for anything and only feel like eating when I get crazy hungry, and then I need to eat whatever I can put in my mouth the fastest. Not the best way to do things.

0 at 20 weeks. Had just gained back the 10 lbs I lost 1st trimester. Gained 44 lbs overall.

9lbs at 20 weeks, 25lbs total. Had a 7lb 8oz baby and was down to within a lb or two of my pre pregnancy weight by 2 weeks post partum.

I am 18 weeks and have gained 18 pounds. My metabolism sucks and adding any calories to my diet makes me gain. I feel slightly worried about it. I have committed to walking everyday starting on Monday because I will actually get off work when it is light outside. I am still getting sick if I wait to eat too long.

I am currently 20 weeks 1 day. Prepregnancy my weight always fluctuated between 155 and 157, now it fluctuates between 159 and 162. So I guess I'm at about 5 pounds weight gain. I had my u\s last week and my little girl was measuring eactly where she was supposed to and weighed a lil over 10 ounces. My son is 9 so I don't remember all the details of the pregnancy but I think I put the majority of my weight on toward the end. I'm hoping not to gain to much because I have an underactive thyroidand its harder to get the weight off. My lil girls doing great so I'm just gonna keep doing what I've been doing and not stress about it.
