Does your female co-worker's short skirt bother you?

Women -- does it bother you when female co-workers wear very short skirts in the office?
One of my colleagues dresses this way -- short skirts with stilettos. She is a competent worker and very pleasant, but it's somewhat off-putting when she's dressed in a sexy outfit. As background, I don't work in a field for which sexy dress is at all typical, expected or required.

Only if she doesn't have nice legs.

Bother me in what way? You sound like a real biddy, OP. As if you want us all to gang up on this pretend co-worker and slam her for daring to dress inappropriately, or rip off her sexy clothes and tar and feather her. Who the hell cares? It's not you, is it, whose career is affected, so why the hell would you be "put off"? Unless, of course, you're a lesbian?

What profession are you in?

I'd be appalled if a colleague showed up on a mini and stilettos. Unless she's rubbing up against a pole and filling her bra with dollars, it's highly unusual to see this style of dress.

OP's not the one with problems; you are. What does sexual preference have to do with professionalism?

Many of the support staff at the law firms and federal agencies I have worked for have worn mini skirts and stilletos. May not be totally professional, but that's the way it is.

You're right, that was awkward phrasing on my part. I was trying to respond to her use of the word "put off." Apologies.

No. It does bother me when coworkers wear blue eye shadow, white pumps and pleated pants.

I see nothing wrong with it. The idea that brains and intellect=a schoolmarmish appearance does a great disservice to women.

Wow! What a sane response!

I take back my first statement!

White pumps are bad enough, but white pleated pants are the WORST b/c they can even make a tiny butt and flat stomach look bad.

I think there is a wide range of clothing options between micro-mini skirts with stiletto heels and schoolmarmish. I am a woman and have never been told that how one dresses equates to intelligence.

In the office, who cares? Not I. But I do recall being appalled when a colleague joined me for an off-site meeting with some important clients, and she was wearing skin-tight low-cut everything. We're talking muffin-top, thong showing, and deep cleavage. And I was all of about 25 at the time. Turned out, these were her *nice* clothes, and she just wanted to look nice for the meeting. She didn't realize that a) she had gained weight since buying them and b) "nice" for dinner with your boyfriend doesn't translate well for business meetings.
