Who was your OB?
Planned or Emergency? What hospital? How big is your scar? Any complications? Overall, bad or decent experience? (as decent as a C-section can be) |
|
Drs. Maggid (#1) and Dickman (#2) in Silver Spring
Both planned due to babies' breach positions Holy Cross Very small With #2 infection in incision that wasn't serious but was very painful. Overall, decent. |

Dr. Jane Piness
Planned Virginia Hospital Center Very small No complications I couldn't have asked for a better surgical experience. Dr. Piness is the best of the best. The recovery at VA Hospital Center left something to be desired, however, and that is, unfortunately, the only hospital where she delivers. If I had to have another C, though, I'd still go back to her. |

Dr. Lynn Lightfoote
Emergency Sibley Small No complications Decent experience. I went home and DH and I forgot to get my pain meds filled though, so that first night home was rough. After a 2 week recovery, all was fine. |

Dr. Heather Sine (CWC Silver Spring - Dennis Ave)
Emergency Holy Cross 4.5 inches no complications |
I could have written this times two as Jane delivered two of mine via planned c-section. For my first the hospital wasn't that bad but for the second they were undergoing renovations and I got caught in the middle. Hopefully they're better by now. |
Ditto, except I found VA Hospital Center to be just fine. Sure there were some no-so-great nurses, but overall, better than fine. |
| I don't remember the name of the OB but I had my daughter at Bethesda National Naval Medical Medical Center. They induced me because I had high blood pressure, and than after 28 hours of labor (and their charge nurse screwing up my pitocin levels twice) I had a C-Section. That went really well, they did everything they could to make sure I was as comfortable as you can be.. and I healed miraculously quickly.. |

First one at Georgetown University Hospital; not emergency, but decided after 2 days of labor/pitocin/et. no progress. The whole thing was awful - recovery, maternity nurses, etc. This is partly due to me being a first time mom, upset about how the birth turned out, and just being terrified all around. But I can honestly say I would never have any procedure done at GUH ever again.
Second one planned - Dr. Thomas Martin (I initially went to Midwifery Care Associates hoping for a VBAC, but by about 38 weeks, for various reasons, it was clear it wasn't going to happen). He was AWESOME. Seriously, just fantastic. Delivered at Shady Grove Hospital and the entire experience was wonderful. Small scar, extremely easy recovery, great nurses, technicians, lactation consultants, etc. and I could not have been more pleased with Dr. Martin. There was another dr. there too, I can't remember his name, and he was equally as impressive. I wish everyone could have the same experience I had. |

Dr. Chahine at GWUH. She was terrific- great bedside manner.
Not planned - giant baby got stuck. 5 inches Mild infection |

Who was your OB? DR SANDRA CASKIE
Planned or Emergency? EMERGENCY AFTER 48 HOURS OF LABOR What hospital? VHC How big is your scar? 5 INCHES Any complications? DECENT BLOOD LOSS LED TO ANEMIA AND I JUST ESCAPED A BLOOD TRANSFUSION BECAUSE I ATE LOOOOTS OF IRON RICH FOODS AND IRON PILLS. NO INFECTIONS, RECOVERY EASY AS A BREEZE SINCE I HAD DH THERE FOR ME 23/7 I DIDN'T LIFT A FINGER FOR 2 WEEKS. |

PP again,
By the way I EBF from day one (milk came in less than 24 hours after surgery) and have oversupply issues still at 7 weeks PP. |
|
Dr. Barry Rothman and Alice O'Brien (Physicians for Women in Alexandria. They were excellent)
Emergency-ish: High Blood Pressure complications but not bad enough not to wait 8 hours until after I ate. Hospital - INOVA Alexandria Scar - 4 in Complications - not during surgery but post the scar got in infected (MRSA) and it wouldn't close immediately. Closed about 2 weeks later. |

Dr. Jones
Emergency (real emergency, not just unplanned) Sibley (was a nightmare. I will NOT be going back there) 5 inches No complications at all and a very easy recovery. Couldn't be happier with having had a c-section. I had no other option but it went really well as did the recovery. I will never have another baby at Sibley, however. |

Dr. Bruce Beckerman
Scheduled, but I went into labor so it was "unplanned" for that date and he was subbing for Dr. Burke 4-5 inches No complications, recovery was normal and pain was not a big issue Sibley Dr. Beckerman was very gracious considering I had never met him and was freaking because I went into labor a week before my scheduled C/S date for a breech birth. He had a great, calm bedside manner and everything went fine. |
