Had a horrible vaginal and and easy C. I highly recommend c sections.

A vaginal birth is better because it is what the body is designed for, not the knife.
You are a strange bunch to think that a different form of birth would make a person better. The healthier option is to opt out of c-sections.
But the doctors seem to prefer c-sections

Wow -- I'm not sure where any c-section moms claimed their c-section would make them a better person. For me, and I suspect most of us, we didn't approach the end of our pregnancies hoping for a c-section. It is major surgery. Shit happens and you and the doctors have to deal with it. We all know that the number of c-sections is up and I would have been the first to tell you pre-baby that doctors do too many. But, when you've pushed for two hours and your baby starts going into distress sometimes you have to opt for the knife. My child is here because of the knife!

The problem with the anti c-section fervor out there is that it unfairly targets a lot of women who did not want major surgery. They just wanted a healthy baby. Many times the risk of a natural vaginal birth when there are problems with the baby outweigh the risk of having a c-section. In my case, I had no other choice.

DO NOT FEED THE ILLITERATE, UNEDUCATED AND OBVIOUSLY INSANE TROLL.

I had two C-Sections with Dr. Lisa Muascher at INOVA FFX. First was because I had a giant baby stuck like cork in a bottle so I never even got to push even though I was fully dilated. C-Section was a total breeze and took like 2 seconds, for recovery I took some OTC motrin or something for a few days, felt a little wobbly but no big deal. And can I give some props to the anasthesiologist, whose name I can't remember but who was awesome. Happy healthy baby and mom. Can barely find the scar -- guess it is time to get to the waxing place... Kid is 8 years old now and doesn't seem to remember the trauma of having been yanked without ceremony from my womb.

2nd C was same dr., same hospital, didn't want to do VBAC. A bit tougher recovery in that it hurt a bit more than the first time around after, but again just some OTC pain killers for a few days. My five year old has yet to display any signs of suffering from not having passed thru my birth canal, although perhaps she'll be a rotten teenager and I can blame my OB.

I was terrified to have myself "cut open" but it was so easy it was . I know this is not the case for all women, but that is my experience.

Physicians for Women
Fairfax Hospital
Planned for Breech
4inches scar.
Horrible complications from an ntibiotic resistant MRSA infection that reared its ugly head about 4 days post surgery. 6 weeks in bed with a nurse comming daily to drain the puss out of my festering wound. Painful for about a year.

2nd baby-successful vaginal birth, shopping 3 days later, jogging on the treadmill 7 days post partum. Night and day.

Elliott and Lashgari (they were both there - I think they maybe do all their planned C-sections together? not sure)
Planned
VHC Arlington
About 5 inches, but pretty faded
No

Overall, okay. The C-section itself and recovery was fine. Not thrilled with my experience at VHC though. They were particularly busy the weekend I was there and except for 1 good recovery nurse, pretty much all of the nurses were just straight up rude. The baby nurses were fine, and the LC was okay. We ended up seeing our own LC after I got out of the hospital who was much better.

OP, just a bump

Virginia Thompson
Unplanned and fairly quick into the operating room (but not truly emergency), due to low fetal heartrate and evidence of placental abruption
Sibley
4-5 inches
No complications.

Overall, a fine experience. Sibley was great, although the food back then was still TERRIBLE. My recovery was good -- certainly no worse than friends of mine who've had tears and stitching. No regrets about the C at all. Once I knew there were issues with DS, I wanted him out of my belly ASAP in case he needed medical attention.

Please indicate where in our posts we claimed the c/s made us better...

OP, CS is better than the alternative!

Had a c-section due to large child and many hours of trying to fully dilate. Have a small 4" scar. No complications. Up and walking in the hospital.

Would do it again.

Have no problem with the natural birthers other than the ones that think they are superior b/c of it. Those folks can suck it.

Who was your OB? Dr Nigrini
Planned or Emergency? Emergency
What hospital? Georgetown
How big is your scar? 4 inches
Any complications? not with the C-section

Overall, bad or decent experience? (as decent as a C-section can be) Wonderful, faced with fetal distress after 42 hours of hard labor it was the best choice for my DC. For me it was fine as well. Within 10 days I was well enough to invite friends and family over for Xmas dinner.

I'm the OP, and I agree completely! The baby has to get out somehow.

I had a C-section, and had a pretty decent experience. I was curious about other women's experiences. It seems that in this area, most women seem to do okay. Which is great to hear!

#1
Hospital & Dr.: GWU, Dr. Larsen
Scar: 5+inches, metal staples on the outside which got infected
Recovery: horrible. Bad nurses at the hospital which resulted in my IV coming out of my arm and causing massive blood loss
I will NEVER go to GWU for anything ever again
This was not a planned c-section. A complication during a planned External version 3 days before my due date resulted fetal and maternal distress. The team performed an emergency c-section including a vertical internal incision. This makes a VBAC impossible.

#2
Hospital & Dr.: Georgetown, Dr. Collea
Scar: 3 inches. He fixed the scar from #1 both inside and outside
Recovery: worlds better than the first. Still long do to the type of incisions I had internally but the staff was great

Loved my Dr and the nurses

#3
Hospital & Dr.: Georgetown, Dr. Collea
Scar: 3 inches. "fixed" any excess scar tissue which resulted in basically a tummy tuck
Recovery: great The dr was able to do a different incision and recovery time was less than a week
Loved my Dr and the nurses

#4
Hospital and Dr.: VHC Dr. Elliot and Dr. Lashgari (note that Dr. Collea no longer delivers babies and no other Georgetown doctor would perform a 4th c-section) Dr. Elliot and Dr. Lashgari have a great approach to multiple c-sections and evaluate them case by case and will give you informed medical opinions on if it would be safe for you to get pregnant again.
Scar: 3 inches no complications
Recovery: great. Loved the hospital staff and food

If a #5 happens we will be going back to Dr. Elliot and Dr. Lashgari
