DHEA and pregnenolone
|
I'm sorry. It's awful. I chose not to take hormones, and the only thing that has really helped me is have a big fan next to the bed, and little battery powered fan that I literally carry around with me. |
I have heard an ob/gyn recommend this. |
Help is available to understand and to work on these menopause concerns which are so frustrating and so common. There are answers available from experts and support that can help from other women.
Give the number of these posts, I'd really love help in getting the word out about an 8-week Menopause Group that's available in person in Bethesda or online. Combines presentations from experts with a group discussion component. Please see my website (Robyn Miller PhD) or reach out with questions on this group or resources that I can connect you with re: gyn, mental health, sex therapy, nutrition, fitness specialists. |
HRTs -- life changing |
Yup, and it's not just about stopping hot flashes. It's also about things like staving off bone density loss, etc. |
I can't take HRT/estradiol because I have breast cancer. With the hormone-suppressing drugs I'm on, I'm in forever menopause. Here's how I manage
- no tight constricting clothing. Said goodbye to yoga pants, sports bras. Vuori are ok though. - breathable fabrics, like cotton and linen. No polys. - No spicy foods (this one is heartbreaking). Even if it's not heat, the spice of Indian or Thai triggers heat/sweating for me. - No hot (temperature) foods. Switched to ice coffee/ tea. I typically let my food cool to room temperature, not straight out of oven. - No alcohol (another heartbreaker). Caffeine in moderation. - Lots of fans. I have handheld, large oscillating, and battery-operated. I always have one in my purse. - I have a mini beauty fridge inside my nightstand. I keep a cold facecloth and ice pack in there for middle-of-the-night hot flashes. - Separate duvets (though share same bed as DH) so I can kick mine off easily. I know it sounds overwhelming. And depressing. I did all these things bit by bit, adding one at a time until I got to a place where I feel pretty good every day. And when I want to wear a tight fitting dress and drink wine, I do. I just know the consequences. Maybe you won't need to do them all. And hopefully, your symptoms are temporary and you can use HRT. |
This. I have a big fan right next to my bed where I can turn it on at night and have it blow right on me. And I have a little battery operated one I carry around with me. |
I also had BC so can't take HRT. My doctor recommended acupuncture |
Why can’t you take HRT if you previously were on birth control? |
BC= breast cancer |
BC survivor here, and +1 to all of the above. Also, no sugar. I have a sleep number bed with the cooling option added on, and it is fantastic. I wear sleeveless shirts year round, light/sheer coverups for the winter-only so that it looks seasonally appropriate. |
