I can't take HRT/estradiol because I have breast cancer. With the hormone-suppressing drugs I'm on, I'm in forever menopause. Here's how I manage - no tight constricting clothing. Said goodbye to yoga pants, sports bras. Vuori are ok though. - breathable fabrics, like cotton and linen. No polys. - No spicy foods (this one is heartbreaking). Even if it's not heat, the spice of Indian or Thai triggers heat/sweating for me. - No hot (temperature) foods. Switched to ice coffee/ tea. I typically let my food cool to room temperature, not straight out of oven. - No alcohol (another heartbreaker). Caffeine in moderation. - Lots of fans. I have handheld, large oscillating, and battery-operated. I always have one in my purse. - I have a mini beauty fridge inside my nightstand. I keep a cold facecloth and ice pack in there for middle-of-the-night hot flashes. - Separate duvets (though share same bed as DH) so I can kick mine off easily. I know it sounds overwhelming. And depressing. I did all these things bit by bit, adding one at a time until I got to a place where I feel pretty good every day. And when I want to wear a tight fitting dress and drink wine, I do. I just know the consequences. Maybe you won't need to do them all. And hopefully, your symptoms are temporary and you can use HRT.
BC survivor here, and +1 to all of the above. Also, no sugar. I have a sleep number bed with the cooling option added on, and it is fantastic. I wear sleeveless shirts year round, light/sheer coverups for the winter-only so that it looks seasonally appropriate.
