She was hired at 13 to write country songs by Sony. She is an unparalleled success since a young age. Talent is up to you but she definitely qualifies.

And Britney Spears was on Star Search at 10 and Mickey Mouse Club. She is also an unparalleled success since a young age. Add her to the list.

If you don’t see the difference between being hired to write songs for a record company and being recruited as a teen pop star, you really aren’t qualified to say who is and isn’t a prodigy.

If you think Taylor Swift writes riveting music that shows some sort of skill, you are delusional and aren’t qualified to say who is and isn’t a prodigy. Both women started young and had success.

I’ve been a musician since I was 5. I’ve written music and have played in orchestras and rock bands. Her music has evolved over time and absolutely does show skill. Is she a prodigy? I’m not sure, but there’s absolutely no question she has significant talent.

Not sure if he’s been mentioned, but Dave Grohl.

Taught himself drums on pillows. Learned entire albums of music by ear. Was instrumental in Nirvana‘s sound, which helped develop a new genre. Single handedly wrote and recorded the first FF record. Has kept that group going for 25 years. He also has one of the best hard rock singing voices out there. Finally, he’s incredibly versatile. He can go from hard rock to doing a dang good job covering Copacana or The Bee Gees.

Shows skill? No. Significant talent? No.

Got lucky at being a mediocre talent bc mediocrity is celebrated and relatable.

Are you a musician? Have you ever written music?

This little girl Amira, singing with Andre Rieu, is a prodigy. Her gift can't be explained. She's just raw talent.

What is talent? What is success? To me talent in art is being able to represent a human experience or emotion in some form (books, songs, music, plays, paintings, drawings, whatever) and have it resonate in others. Whether you like her music or you don't, she has documented her experience of the world and it has deeply deeply resonated with many people.

You don't like it, and honestly, she's not my favorite. But she speaks to people, that is undeniable. It is elitism and sexism to claim her art is inferior because the people that resonate with her art are all young women.
