She was hired at 13 to write country songs by Sony. She is an unparalleled success since a young age. Talent is up to you but she definitely qualifies.

And Britney Spears was on Star Search at 10 and Mickey Mouse Club. She is also an unparalleled success since a young age. Add her to the list.

If you don’t see the difference between being hired to write songs for a record company and being recruited as a teen pop star, you really aren’t qualified to say who is and isn’t a prodigy.

If you think Taylor Swift writes riveting music that shows some sort of skill, you are delusional and aren’t qualified to say who is and isn’t a prodigy. Both women started young and had success.

I’ve been a musician since I was 5. I’ve written music and have played in orchestras and rock bands. Her music has evolved over time and absolutely does show skill. Is she a prodigy? I’m not sure, but there’s absolutely no question she has significant talent.

Shows skill? No. Significant talent? No.

Got lucky at being a mediocre talent bc mediocrity is celebrated and relatable.

What is talent? What is success? To me talent in art is being able to represent a human experience or emotion in some form (books, songs, music, plays, paintings, drawings, whatever) and have it resonate in others. Whether you like her music or you don't, she has documented her experience of the world and it has deeply deeply resonated with many people.

You don't like it, and honestly, she's not my favorite. But she speaks to people, that is undeniable. It is elitism and sexism to claim her art is inferior because the people that resonate with her art are all young women.

Listen up, it’s not sexism or elitism to call out Taylor Swift as the mediocre talent she is.

Honestly you sound like the people who crowed about rap not being music in the 90s. Just because it doesn't speak to YOU doesn't mean it is not worthwile.

And you couldn’t be more wrong, but continue to go off.

It seems like you're trying to just taunt swift fans, but you're not actually having a conversation with swift fans, so you are coming off really bizarre and petulant.

I’m actually not shocked that’s your spin. Calling someone petulant, bizarre, crow, sexist, elitist aren’t taunting. It shows the maturity and levelheadedness of Taylor fans.

I’m not that poster, but I’ve repeatedly asked you for evidence of your contention. You haven’t provided any so far.

The Edge, U2. His "soaring" guitar sound is unmistakable and unlike any other.

I am impressed by many, many musicians, all the time. Did y'all know that David Bowie made "Space Oddity" in 1969? Same year as moon landing. I think he is a genius, but I think so many of them are geniuses! I love what musicians do, whether it is large/small, arena or street corner.

I saw talk of T Swift up above, and I think she's genius for song writing that connects with her audience. Plus aesthetics that connect with them.

I love a lot of old 70s rock, that is more my style, and also what I think of as "psychedelic" rock, which Pink Floyd is, and Led Zepp maybe-ish. Those guys, maybe not the best people IRL, but they are smart rockers. Understood a lot about the parts of a piece, and what would make a person want to listen to it for longer than the average pop song length. And the love of music is in there, palpable.

I think Prince is a genius. Tom Petty. NWA. Eazy E. Britney Spears is a genius. Really. She actually is, but she has probs, like being under conservatorship for 10+ years by her abusive family.

Anyway, I adore artists. Lots more geniuses but this is who I thought of this minute.
