ODP

We are doing some of the Developmental ODP (D-ODP) sessions. We can't make all of them as they are 6:30-8pm on Sunday evenings. The Coaching and fast/ rotational sides 3v3 games have been very good. The level of skill and coaching is far better than our U10&U11 teams. My daughter only knows 1 other girl there from another team and doesn't exactly look forward to going, especially after playing 1 or 2 games on the weekend, so we skip some sessions for this reason. But, focus on individual skill development and competitiveness is very good.

Rumor the ODP teams next summer are headed to Lisbon. That’s what I’m talking about!

The 2009 boys are going to Portugal next spring. I’m not sure what other boys and girls age groups are going. Last spring the international trip was Spain (Valencia and Madrid) and it was 2008 and 2009 boys and 2007 and 2009 girls.

My son (2009) went to Spain and had such a wonderful time. The trip was so well put together and far exceeded our expectations. We were on the fence about doing ODP again this year (pros: good coaching, great exposure to kids at other clubs, fun team travel to the NC and VA Friendlies; cons: middling talent level at the state pool level, hassle of driving to Fredericksburg), but we’re doing it again to have the option of going to Portugal. The trip to Spain made all of the driving to Fredericksburg worthwhile and I’m sure the same will be true for the boys and girls who go to Portugal this year.

Good coaching overall: organized practices: drills first, then 3x3 or 5x5 then scrimmage. One theme focus each practice that the coaches expect the girls to apply during the scrimmage at the end of that practice. Positive comments throughout. Last year's practices were a nice compliment to my daughter's regular practices and included strategy so we rejoined this year. State Level adds strategy and expected faster play, for sure and challenged the players.
One weekend last year, we felt she played too much, though.
Travel was organized to other states by bus.
Also, My DD now knows other girls during regular league games and that keeps the fun and social in it for her.
First experience rooming with teammates was good and after initial awkwardness, girls had a blast.

Did anyone NOT get an ODP Call back for tonight? It feels like the play level was all over the place. Not quite the "selective" look.

I know some girls ages cut at least a third for callbacks. Fewer teams as you move up in age.

The same travel agency/tour group that runs the ODP trip also runs many other soccer packages to overseas destinations. Exactly the same as the ODP package and better.
You can skip all the ODP hassle if you choose and just sign up directly for one of their tour packages.

Anyone know who the coaches are for the Maryland ODP teams? Is that something that will be announced before you sign up?

How many teams are typically made for the u12 age group for the NC friendlies? How do they combine with the other districts?

I really wish this program would be repackaged for what it really is. It's really outdated and the value proposition just isn't there for top players.
