Hi all.
I can work out when I'm finished my progesterone/estrogen combo - which is technically this Friday coming up, but I'm going to taper off the use because I'm worried about going off it. I'm going to start back with my class schedule, then add my trainer on Saturdays for a bit (I'm owed some sessions, but probably won't renew just because of the cost issue, hopefully will be able to do it after the birth) and will hopefully add prenatal yoga or the barre program (the owner, Linda, told me that they definitely hope to make this a series - my only warning would be that B Fit is up two large flights of steps....not good for later in pregnancy but for 2nd Tri, it's probably good).

I don't crave juice, but when I have a taste, it's on like donkey kong - I can drink the whole container. I've been trying to drink more milk, and we're splurging on the Trickling Springs skim in the glass botte - I feel better about now consuming from all that plastic. and I drink a lot of soda stream, but sometimes it tastes weird. I've ordered my Vitamix (thanks, QVC!) which should arrive later this week, and am looking forward to my morning green smoothies so I can feel better about what I'm drinking. I have NO desire to eat salad (like, the thought grosses me out, even though I love fresh veggies).

I think we're lucky with the timing of our pregnancies (I always caveat mine by saying hopefully it continues to go well!) because spring/summer are just around the corner [even with all this snow!] and we'll have delicious fresh produce to help us feed our babies - summer peaches?! corn? TOMATOES!! I can't wait for it to be gazpacho season - I live on that in the summer, it's so healthy and refreshing. Strawberries should be right around the corner.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend - yesterday was exhausting. We aren't going anywhere for Passover (happy passover, if there are any other tribesfolk here) so I cooked all afternoon/evening so DH and I could have SOMETHING for passover - so I cooked and cooked. And once in a while I felt like I was going to throw up. I haven't yet, but that's an awful feeling.
choose a name you love.

(IMO, though, Kayla is a very dated name - Michelle/Dana are a little more "timeless" if that makes sense)

congrats!
I'm picturing my Bubbie and Pop-Pop having no idea what to do with the egg. Sure, it says "crack me", but my Bubbie will be like "what? what is this?", my Pop Pop will grab it and pretend to know.
But, it's cute so hopefully it works. It'll definitely work for my aunt when I tell them when I travel to visit them, but I'll be 16 weeks then, so I don't know how I'll withhold it from them that long, or how I won't really look pregnant by then.
I was looking for cards that said, "you've always been a good aunt..but now you'll be a great aunt!" I can't find em and Etsy folks wanted too much money to custom that, so the egg will do!
Play the lottery!
I figured this was appropriate to share as we are starting to get nearer to the end of the first tri for many October moms-to-be:

We're using one of these options from Etsy (bought it prior to this buzzfeed!) but some of them are really adorable - that Juno one? CUTE!
Yikes! My friend sort of spent years working on the safe chemicals bill that went nowhere. Lol

I try to avoid a few things, personally, because I also need stuff to work. I am not as anal as my friends who use the Yes line so I am surprised
My girlfriend doesn't care about that stuff, so I kept the stuff for her gift and she likes it, but they took my return. I assumed natural meant no parabens Kiel's too.

The best shampoo line I have found without parabens is Moroccan Oil, the all natural stuff at whole foods wouldn't come out of my thick hair. I use the skin care from blue mercury - M61. I really like it.

i have friends very into natural products (obsessive actually!) and they love the Yes To lines (yes to carrots, for example)

I bought new mom gifts there for my good friend and found most stuff there has parabens in them. If you care about parabens, check the product. Some stuff doesn't, just most. Which stinks becaus I got a lip balm there I loved and won't use it.

just got this email:
"The Department of Defense has decided to delay the issuance of civilian employee furlough notices for approximately two weeks. This delay will allow the department to carefully analyze the impact of pending continuing resolution legislation on the department's resources. We have not made any decisions on whether or not the total number of planned furlough days for fiscal 2013 will change as a result of this delay. We believe the delay is a responsible step to take in order to assure our civilian employees that we do not take lightly the prospect of furloughs and the resulting decrease in employee pay."

seems like a case of they need to shit or get off the pot. The uncertainty is the worst part.
Anyone else tired of plain water? I have a brk bottle (glass) and I drink from it all day at work. How do you make drinking so much water easier? I can't fit a lemon in here (so I might get another bottle, actually).
I'm worried about getting crystal light because of the chemicals...
Congrats, OP!
My first sono I measured less than 5 weeks (it was 3+ weeks after transfer), and we saw one sac and yolk. No fetal pole, no HB. But a week later, I was measuring RIGHT on track, fetal pole, HB was measured (176). DH was there, has been for all three appointments so far (including my first OB one, but probably won't go from now on because leave is valuable, and I'd rather have him there after the baby is born). The ultrasound isn't icky for DH because there's a decent cover over me so he can't see much. Makes it less awkward!
If your baby doesn't measure where you think you are, DONT worry - I thought I'd measure 5w and change, but I didn't - however, it grew more than a week in the week between ultrasounds. The technition (GW) was great at showing us stuff. I cried at the HB (2nd ultrasound) because I'm a worry wart, and they were so sweet about it.

The worst part has always been the wait - and now, "graduated" to the OB, I have a MONTH between appointments and I'm trying not to go insane.
GOOD LUCK and keep us posted.
Pumpkin - I saw them post it on Facebook. If you can't make it Sunday (or if you can!) definitely tell the owner that this is something you want to see offered more regularly. I'd love it regularly (even though I'm terrified to see how out of shape I am). I think if they offered it as a series / regularly, it would be very popular. Despite the massive number of stairs you have to walk up to get there lol
With the cost of childcare in DC (I live in the city), there's minimal reason for me, economically, to keep my job. However, my child needing day care is not a long term situation. I worry about my long-term employment prospects if I leave the work force for a while. So, we'll deal with it.

If you WANT to stay home, that's a different story. I'd probably like to stay home (but, I don't really find value in my job)...but I'm the main breadwinner and never having that income would be a hit now, and in the future (including retirement). So I'll stick it out the best I can when the DC arrives. But I definitely think if you WANT to stay home and it can work, financially, then there's your answer.
So, how many hours of annual/sick does this mean we lose during the 22 weeks?

And for us, no one has told us anything. It's really shameful. I've read online that we'll get it tomorrow, but it really is ridiculous that no one here has managed to tell us anything. Not sure if I should be offended, but I know the military personnel doesn't really care abotu our furloughs.
yes, leave is calculated based on working 80 hours a week. so a number of weeks in to the furlough we start earning less leave.

rumor is we get our notices tomorrow. I haven't seen anything and since I work for all military, no one seems to have any information (or care....I got told, "oh come on, it's a 12% cut over the year, not 20%" by a coworker...yet no increase in BAH is "horrible, what's wrong with Congress?!" So much for the military cutting spending).
