I have added placeholders all CHRVA clubs who participated in Boys' Regionals and the Boys' Final Four Showdown in 2025.

Please continue to drop links to updated tryouts. Thanks!
As of today, I can only identify five clubs offering boys volleyball. Only No Panic and The St. James have posted tryout times for the weekend beginning August 22, 2025.

I don't suspect any information for the upcoming girls season will be posted before September. Hopefully, I can copy-n-paste much of the info from the previous edition of this spreadsheet once posted.
I'm going to let the 2024-2025 thread fade away ...

Here's my attempt at a 2025-2026 CHRVA Clubs spreadsheet (Google Sheets). I'm only trying to capture factual/verifiable information (fees, coaches, facilities, tryouts, competitive events). This document will NOT attempt to compare the competitiveness of one club's teams versus that of another club.

I have intentionally protected parts of each worksheet. Some folks like to get into a document like this and start moving stuff around. By protecting portions of each worksheet, I'm hoping to minimize permanent damage. If you want to muck with the data, you can export your own copy.

I alone will not cover every CHRVA club/team. If there is a particular club/team that's "missing," feel free to add it to the right of the vertical black bar on the appropriate age group worksheet. Fill in as much info as you can, following the format of the data that's already there.

If updated information is posted by a club/team, just copy the existing column, add it to the right, and make the corrections/updates.

I'll move columns to the protected side of each worksheet after a quick sanity check (just once a day). I realize that some of the same info will work for multiple age groups, so I'll copy-and-paste accordingly. I intend to keep the clubs in alphabetical order going from left to right.
If folks can drop some club links here for boys' tryouts, I'll start incorporating them into the spreadsheet.
Is it time to start refreshing the tryouts spreadsheet (<== on Google Sheets)?

"No, ... not yet!"

I'll try to incorporate boys clubs/teams for the upcoming 2025-2026 club season, if folks help me find useful information. Are the boys tryouts earlier again this year?
My 17s player just asked me to help decipher the USAV notice to the Alaska and Southern California regions.

I can only presume that adults are behaving badly ... for whatever reason. Is this something new or has this been festering for a while?

Update ... to answer my own question, I guess. I'll let this guy tell it:

All USAV Nationals bids have been finalized. Not a bad haul (43 bids, I think). Too bad the region couldn't reclaim the additional bids earned-but-declined by Blue Ridge.

It would be interesting to see total bids earned by region. I'm certain some smart folks here are up to the challenge of figuring that our.

Here's the text verbatim from the 2025 USA Volleyball manual: https://usavolleyball.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/2025-Girls-Championship-Manual-Finalized-Updated-with-Changes-as-of-Feb-19.pdf

GJNC = Girls Junior National Championships
NQ = National Qualifier ... roughly 12 NQ events per year for ages 17 and under; 16 NQ events for 18s

There are ~40 regions in USA Volleyball (https://www.usavregions.org/regions.html). Each region is allotted a set number of bids ... per age group ... for its teams to compete at the national championships. The number of bids is based on the number of participating players in that region ... again, per age group.

The list of the divisions below is typically in order from highest level of competition to the lowest.

From Page 10

There are seven (7) major divisions of play at GJNCs – Open Divisions, National Divisions, USA Divisions, Liberty Divisions, American Divisions, Freedom Divisions, and the Patriot Divisions.

The goal of the GJNCs Open Divisions is to identify, through competition, the best team in each GJNCs age group from among teams that have earned Bids. The NQ Open Divisions are designed to select those teams.

To participate in an Open Division at the GJNCs, a team must earn a Bid from participating in an NQ Open Division – either winning the Bid outright at an NQ or being selected for an At-Large Bid after competing in an NQ Open Division (see Open At-Large Bids).

The goal of the GJNCs National, USA, Liberty, American and Freedom is to showcase Region Teams and provide the opportunity for more teams to participate at the GJNCs.

Teams have the following avenues to receive a Bid for a GJNCs Open, National, USA, Liberty, American or Freedom Division:

• Earn a Bid at a NQ (Open, National (11s – 12s only) USA, Liberty and American);
• Awarded an at–large Bid (Open, USA, and Liberty);
• Earn a Bid through their Region’s Bid process (National, American and Freedom); or
• Earn a Bid from their Region through the Re-allocation process (National, USA, Liberty, American and Freedom).

The goal of the GJNCs Patriot Divisions is to allow opportunity for teams to participate at the GJNCs without following the qualification process. Teams must follow the established process to participate in this division.

...

The page also has a chart to show approximately how many teams compete in each division at the national championships.

Patriot division is effectively pay-to-play. All other bids must be earned on the court.

Technically, "Regional" isn't a level of play. It's more of an admission that a "regional" team won't travel too far from its home location for competition. Think getting there by car vs. opting to fly. However, some might infer that a "Regional" team isn't really that good if they aren't willing to travel far enough to prove it.
My 08 kid played on the FPYC for GA for roughly 6 years. He seems to be building in the early stages of building a (non-club) program through his FCPS high school HC position now. Solid coach and all-around great person, but I won't turn this thread into a lovefest.

As far as I know, that team (under GA) merged with GF-R since they had an unused ECNL-R slot. My kid moved to another sport after that first ECNL-R season, so I don't know what's happened since.

The USAV spreadsheets won't be updated for several days, usually on Thursdays.

The Paramount 15s did make it to the four-team Gold bracket in the Far Western Qualifier (https://tm2sign.com/app/event/1821/division/8626/pool-bracket/173639) this weekend. I think USAV qualifiers are allowed one bid for every twelve competing teams in the Open division ... up to a max of 3 bids (36 teams). Two of the teams in that Gold bracket already hold Open bids. However, Paramount finished in 4th place, and there may be only one Open bid available as just 16 teams competed in that division. Perhaps someone who attended can correct me if my understanding is off.

USAV National 18s results (https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMzc5MTQ90/home) are:

Metro 18s finished in a four-way tie for 13th in Open (out of 48)
Paramount 18s finished in a two-way tie for 27th in National (out of 48); Liberty Elite 18s finished in a four-way tie for 37th
MVSA 18s finished in a four-way tie for 21st in American (out of 64)
VAJRS 18s finished in a four-way tie for 21st in American (out of 48); MDJRS 18s finished in a four-way tie for 37th
(Hopefully) Here is a desktop browser view of the declined bids from NEQ - 17 USA:

Five teams declined a USA bid
don’t think the bids next to the team names reflect bids they earned at NEQ. ...

Any bids earned before this NEQ weekend are listed by the team names, hence the "17 Freedom," "17 USA," and "17 Liberty" bids listed. However, the "Declined Bid" and "Earned Bid" labels reflect only this past weekend's play. If you look at the bracket, those teams were in the Gold bracket. Even just the standings page listed where each team finished (all were top 8 ... and there were 16 in Gold). This is just the first time I've seen multiple teams decline bids they earned.
So many teams declining bids, but only in the 17 USA division.

Updated the USAV bids earned by CHRVA teams: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/435/1219014.page#29732231

VA Elite 17s now have a Freedom bid after the Metro 17s got an Open bid at Big South. I think the Metro 17s "double-qualified" for 17 Open after today's results at Show Me. It also looks like the Paramount 16s may have earned an Open bid by placing the the Gold bracket in Kansas City. If I am correct, another 16s CHRVA team should now get a Freedom bid as the bids flow up to fill Paramount's previously earned American bid.

Looking at the NEQ results, it is possible that the Metro 14s may have earned an Open bid with a top 6 finish in the Gold bracket there (three teams in the top 6 already had Open bids). The Blue Ridge 13s also earned an Open bid ... and it is not being reported as "Declined Bid." The Blue Ridge 12s also earned a USA bid, but declined it.
Alongside the availability of quality coaches, would the number of available practice courts also factor in any CHRVA club's ability to offer more teams per age group with fewer players per team?

Of the facilities I've seen, MDJRS has the most courts (11 maybe?) and it seems like this club may have the most club teams per age group. I'm also guessing that the club owns that facility. Vienna Elite may have a similar number of teams per age group, but that operation is spread across the Fieldhouse and Nzone. (I'm not sure if they also use the Rockville location for practices.) The St. James can do practices on 9 courts. Paramount can maybe do 8 courts, even though I don't think they have exclusive use of "their" facility. I'm going to guess that every other club of note has to pay rent, even if they can reduce some costs by using schools or churches. If you don't own your facility, it seems reasonable that you're capped as to how big you can grow (as far as number of teams) as a program and you have to compete with other activities for space.

For those non-CHRVA clubs that have multiple teams with fewer players, I wonder if they have their own facility and are possibly the only game in town. I'm also guessing that any rents they pay are cheaper than the going rates for court space here in the DMV.
