I am about to update my bid tracker in the other thread (https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/436/1219014.page)

Has CHRVA clearly defined how they will handle tiebreakers from the 5th place teams from Bid Regionals? In the case of the 16s, there are four teams that finished 5th. Columbia 16 Black has the highest point percentage (Pt. %), but they lost more sets than the other 5th place finishers ... and they also lost one more match than two other 5th-place teams.

The same thing could happen with the 15s (and possible other age groups) if additional bids are earned at qualifiers or are re-allocated.
No need to quote my whole recap in future replies. Thanks for catching my typo. I think I fixed that.

Acknowledging that there are a few more weeks of qualifiers remaining, things could easily change. I'm just offering a snapshot of where CHRVA teams are currently "positioned."

I think it is important (maybe more important) to note the teams that have earned bids at qualifiers. MDJRS 14 finished 3rd in their division at Sunshine. Although they declined their earned bid, Blue Ridge 17s finished 3rd in their division at NEQ. Metro 18s finished in the top 8 (making gold bracket) at NEQ, earning their bid. In those examples, these teams had to be the at the top of their "game" for three days.

Let's say DMV Elite (why not pick on them, right?) goes out and earns Open bids for all teams over the next month ... and no other CHRVA teams get/improve their bids. I didn't look at their schedules, so don't fact-check me too hard! Does DMV Elite become the "it" club ... at least for the current year?
With Bid Regionals now complete, here are the earned USAV bids 2025 by CHRVA teams:

As a proud GMU alum, City of Fairfax resident, and third-year club VB parent, I'll say this:

Don't expect too much from this event.

First, that's the same weekend that most 15s/16s/17s will be in Philadelphia for NEQ (https://advancedeventsystems.com/events/37043). I'm fairly certain that the colleges listed for the showcase will have representation in Philly.

Second, it's Easter Weekend (and the end of spring break for many). It's already bad enough that NEQ falls on Easter.

Third, it still costs $300 for one day!

Now, if your player doesn't have anything else to do that weekend, feel free to consider it! My club player has done a handful of camps/showcases at GMU and as a paying parent, I don't have any regrets. I just don't want anyone to believe this event will be more substantial than going to an invite-only camp (where only elite athletes attend) or even a qualifier.

And for what it is worth, GMU claims that they've finished recruiting their 2026 class. Again, as an alum, I am hard-pressed to believe that a sub-0.400 D1 school has "finished" recruiting a class that won't complete high school for another 15 months. My kid heard something similar from Temple for her position. VCU currently lists six sophomores and no freshmen on their roster, so maybe they are looking for players.
The final teams for the CHRVA Bid Regionals have now been "accepted."

https://advancedeventsystems.com/events/37628

I wonder if some teams that are currently "ranked" in the top 12 of their age group didn't get selected for not meeting the requirements (two local/CHRVA events, one of those at the Open level).
Anyone have a better "understanding" of Blue Ridge? Although previous posts here indicate that the club focuses on the beach VB season (which is fine), they seem to produce fairly strong indoor teams ... at least by CHRVA standards. I think I've also read here that the club seems to decline USAV bids that their teams have earned. I do find it odd that some BRVA teams still go to qualifiers. In fact, three of the teams in the high school age groups are going to MEQ the same weekend "we" have Bid Regionals.

If they aren't likely to accept any earned USAV bid, why even get on a plane to play at qualifiers? Do they go to those larger events just for varied (and hopefully quality) competition?
Not going to claim that crazy things cannot/will not happen, but per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Deposit_Insurance_Corporation:

The FDIC is not supported by public funds; member banks' insurance dues are its primary source of funding.

...

The FDIC receives no funding from the federal budget. Instead it assesses premiums on each member and accumulates them in a Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF) that it uses to pay its operating costs and the depositors of failed banks.

Admittedly, I am NOT an economist and I cannot predict the future. However, I'd like to think we can agree on some facts to form the basis of an informed discussion.
With the 18s season ending much earlier than younger age groups, are there that many more qualifiers left on the schedule for a CHRVA team to earn a bid? Just a quick check only shows NEQ and MEQ remaining on the schedule for some of the most-discussed CHRVA clubs. I also see an Under Armour event in Louisville, but I don't know if that event is considered a qualifier.
Not a 16s parent, but there were a good number of college coaches walking around the convention center during Cap Hill. My 17s kid had a Zoom call with a coach on Friday night and she said the coach was at her team's court the next day. On Sunday, a Randolph Macon coach sat beside me for a few minutes while I was waiting for the match on an adjacent court to end. I was kinda surprised that the RM coach asked me a question or two.

I'm sure there were a few coaches there to look at players from the more "popular" clubs like Triangle and Metro. ECJVC 17s has an NC State commit that always draws attention. I don't know if college coaches take PrepVolleyball writeups seriously, but the athletes that were mentioned probably got some extra attention. However, I suspect that the high-profile college programs were likely focused on the event in Kansas City.

.
Also note that not all events use AES as an underlying platform. For example, Volley by the James, National Harbor Showdown, and Capital Hill Classic use SportWrench. I think the clubs would have to enter teams results from those events into the AES system ... where they would only be reflected as wins and losses (not a breakdown of all matches within the event).

I think West Coast clubs/events are on another platform that is not AES or SportWrench. It wouldn't surprise me if there were other platforms.
Former Paramount parent (from last year's 15 Open bid team, perhaps )

With the CHRVA-relevant events that have been completed to this point (Volley by the James, City of Oaks, MAPL-Hampton, Charm City, National Harbor ... which may not have the caliber of the other events I've listed), I think it is only fair to acknowledge that both Metro Travel and Paramount 1s have both done well in their outings. I didn't check all results, but I didn't see that any CHRVA 18s teams earned a USAV bid while in Ohio. I think Metro won the silver bracket, but that does not translate to a bid.

Other than the one-day Bid Regionals, most of the top CHRVA teams won't face each other outside of a qualifier. Are there any other clubs/teams that are putting themselves in a position to do well in their respective age groups? I haven't seen BRVA 17s (at least one win over Metro 17s). I have seen a few Premier EDGE teams that simply didn't make mistakes and found ways to win. I'm just not sure if that will translate to success against the top two. I still don't know how Virginia Juniors will do ... and I think they have only one team competing in Open in events after Cap Hill. Hopefully, the club do will in USA division play. It does seem that some of the Maryland clubs (MDJRS, MVSA) are losing talent to the behemoths in the older age groups. In potentially good news, CHRVA seems to be first in line for a reallocated American division bid for most age groups (14s - 17s, at least).
This isn't for club volleyball, but I'm passing this along. Although I am not affiliated, my DD started with FPYC VB while in middle school as things started to return to normal after COVID.

Good evening, FPYC Families

The wait is over and the relaunch of volleyball starts this spring. Thank you for the feedback, comments, and volunteer interest from our recent survey. We had a high volume of responses, and your continued involvement and engagement can be submitted to volleyball@fpycsports.com.

In order to create a fun, safe, and enjoyable space where volleyball athletes can learn and grow, the FPYC Volleyball Program will include short and long term goals. The short-term goal for this season is to start with clinics to improve or refine all facets of players development in a positive, progressive, and fun environment. The long-term goal for future seasons is to establish a league/teams volleyball structure with competitive opportunities within FPYC and/or other venues.

Program Details:

• Spring season starts March 21 through May 16, excluding the week of spring break. We may add or extend one or two make-up sessions to plan accordingly.
• Location and times: KJMS Gym (that's Katherine Johnson Middle not too far from Fair Oaks Mall), 6:00pm - 7:00pm or 7:00pm to 8:30pm based on the age of the player, and level of skills. Further information during the registration process.
• Clinics are for players interested in learning and improving their volleyball skills. From basics such as, proper passing, serving, and setting techniques, to improvement of coordination and court movement.
• Space is limited and registration will close as we reach our maximum capacity.

Volunteering to coach or assist is both rewarding and fun! If interested, it is not too late to sign up when registering your player.

To learn more about FPYC, visit https://www.fpycsports.com/about and stay tuned for the relaunch of the volleyball homepage.

Registration is available Online ONLY
Online Registration for Spring 2025 Volleyball is open. Please be sure to enter your player's information as a member before starting the actual registration. This will make the registration process go smoother. https://fpycsports.demosphere-secure.com/_registration

Cost: $80.00

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
FPYC is a completely volunteer based organization.

We are in need of Volunteers to help Coach and run Volleyball, please consider volunteering. If interested, sign up when registering your player or reach out to the Director of Volleyball at volleyball@fpycsports.com
My kid's first club volleyball experience was with The St. James two years ago. Loved the facility (aside from parking, of course!). My kid's coaches were great, but were not retained for the next year, so most of that team left, as I think only one player went back for another year. They seem to be going through coaches like crazy. If anything, I wonder if The St. James mostly focuses on their boys' program ... to the detriment of the girls' teams.

...

I apologize to PP, but I have a different tangent to explore. What is the consensus on nearby regions? I think we all know the CHRVA is relatively weak nationally, especially outside of Metro and Paramount. Can the same be said for Old Dominion, Carolina, Garden Empire, Keystone? Are there similar clubs that tend to be the behemoths of their particular regions? For example, are Triangle and RVC the go-to clubs in North Carolina and the rest of Virginia, respectively?
Maybe to put in another way, ...

There is no central body that does scheduling for tournaments to ensure some level of fair competition. This isn't high school (or Little League, the NFL, NHL, MLB, etc.) where someone has a vested interest in having all teams play each other. At best, each tournament host takes all paying entrants for a particular age group and tries to seed them so that better teams (based on past-but-hopefully-very-recent performance) have the best chance to win their bracket. It is basically a pay-and-you-are-in NCAA Tournament Selection Show and the tourney itself starting and ending within a span of a week ... and repeating the process weekly for the next tourney. Things will naturally be out-of-whack here in January, because we really don't know how good/bad some teams may be in these early-season contests.

Remember, each club must pay a fee to the host of each team it enters into a tournament. So, clubs have an interest to keep their own balance sheets clean while providing (we hope, as paying customers) an adequate level of competition. Sometimes, it works. Other times, it won't.
Other than top Paramount and Metro teams possibly avoiding each other at a local event, there is no apparent coordination among clubs and tournament hosts to create "ideal" matchups. Clubs just sign up their teams for local events that fit their schedules and coach availability. I don't think there is any attempt to keep top teams only playing other local top teams, while secondary/regional teams only play other teams of a similar caliber. It's all dependent on who signs up for each event.

Just looking at AES, MDJRS is hosting 26 events from January 11 through May. Vienna Elite has 48 and MVSA has 22. Sure, not every age group plays at each of these events, but there are simply so many events. Anyone trying to get the "top" five to eight teams for a given age group to compete in the same local event will probably just give up trying to coordinate that. As far as I know, CHRVA doesn't incentivize the clubs to make that happen.
